NS2 Vets can do this game a great service

<div class="IPBDescription">by commanding / helping Aliens</div>Lets face it, most of the new guys like to go Rines cause it is much easier to learn, the curve is steep on Aliens.

But if you have a Vet Alien Kamm it can go a LONG way in helping Aliens win rounds. This would make people want to join Aliens cause they know they have a chance and can see first hand Aliens can be good with the right tools.

Or even coach and help new Alien Kamms, dont preach to them just give some good tips and guildlines, most new players love to have some direction and help. That is what I have noticed so far.

Also, please don't lash out at new people, they are trying. We dont want to look elitest and then people are afraid of trying things.

After all it is just a game.

Most of us I have seen are stepping in to command.
I did it most of the first day (release night) but after 10-12 games it gets a little tiring. :)

However we can also serve to teach people how to command in the first server I played on
I asked someone to watch me command for a game and I talked them through what I was
doing, the next game he was commander and I played on the other team and talked another
rookie commander through how they should be commanding... We vets don't need to command
every game ever otherwise you rookies will never learn will ya? :)

Also... Once you learn the basic (essentials) for Kham (quick hive and early leap, always go crag and shift) then its MUCH easier to do that Marine commanding! :)

I have been playing alien basically every single game. To be honest we don't even have to command, just help the commander from the field and having a 3/1 4/1 ratio skulk is more helpful for the alien team in general.

Who says you cant do both?
Isn't that exactly what the fade is for?

Yeah I've been commanding 80% of the time, although I lust to kill newbies. :(

imo fast hive leap is the best way to go. New players do not understand ambushing or wall jump yet and rush straight on no matter how many times you tell them. I still see those beta players jumping on marines and murdering those poor derp skulks.

Then again i feel so bad as a skulk when i jump into a group of 5 or more, kill 3, die, and come back for the rest lol.

My first night i was laughing at all the new skulks and gorges. People enjoying the belly slide and even though they werent winning, they were still having a blast. It was a frustrating experience as a comm due to that one beta player running through everyone to snipe my chambers, hive, or RTS. Had to get out and go toe to toe :P

Just having a mic and being patient is all that is needed. That as switching teams when an imbalance comes no matter how hard you worked to get that win. All in all have fun and let it show =)

Another black-armoured rookie here :) I think the three or four hours I've played so far have enabled me to figure out most of the gameplay mechanics, although the hundreds and hundreds of hours of NS1 playtime might have helped.
Personally, I never figured out how to bunnyhop, and wall jumping will probably meet the same fate. I just try to work around that; jump and dodge like mad when approaching a marine, and try to avoid long distances out of cover, favouring ambushes when possible. I don't think lack of bunnyhopping or wall jumping is an indication of lack of experience, only lack of skill.

There is no bunnyhopping the same way that it's in the quake engine. You can jump repeatedly, but you don't gain speed.

There is walljump in the current build, but the implementation is kind of derp. You gain speed by jumping off a wall, but immediately lose it if you don't repeatedly jump or perform more walljumps. If you "glitch" it on curved surfaces (repeated jump key spam against the wall as it curves), you can gain some incredibly insane speed, like 3x the normal speed of a skulk. It's just way glitched, but it's there. Maybe in the future it will be improved.

Generally, I feel like understanding the array of alien abilities and what they do might be helpful for new players, and that's where something like the wiki comes in handy. I've seen way too many people going gorge and then spitting at power nodes when bile bomb is available, not healing, etc.
