Lots of problems with this game...

This is ridiculous. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game 3 times yet it takes half an hour to load a single map! shaders take ages to load and dont even get me start on the precashing load times.... And the icing on the cake is that after I have waited half an hour for the bloody map to load im greeted by a pitch black room where I cant see where I am going! Also not to mention the game worked once for me yesterday somehow i managed to get into a game and it ran poorly...very very poorly on low settings I was getting around 35 fps and 20 fps on high settings. I can run games like Battlefield 3 at 50 frames per second on high/ultra...

anyway I hope I can get help to fix these issues ASAP else I am going to give up on this game.

My system specs are:

> Mainboard : Asus P8Z68-V

> Chipset : Intel Z68

> Processor : Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4600 MHz

> Physical Memory : Corsair Vengeance 8192 MB (2 x 4096 DDR3-SDRAM ) @ 1600mhz

> Video Card : ATI Radeon HD 5770 Series 1GB @ 950mhz core/1350mhz memory

> Hard Disk : Corsair Force 3 SSD (120GB)

> Hard Disk : SAMSUNG HD103SJ (1000GB)

> Hard Disk : SAMSUNG HD501LJ (500GB)

> Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (64-bit)

> DirectX : Version 11.00

> Windows Performance Index : 7.4 on 7.9

I have friends with similar systems and only slightly better gfx cards like HD 7870s and can run the game at a constant 100 fps on high so I should get around 50-60 TBH...

Also I have updated all my drivers, I have done virus scans and I have defragged my Hard drives and also done a couple of the fixes like deleting the shaders folder etc and running the integrity thing on steam yet nothing seems to work!

have you downloaded your latest video drivers?
btw loading times will only be slow the first time you run the game / after an install as it compiles the shaders once.

I have yes I have stated that I have updated all drivers. It does it all the time for every map and then it just loads a pitch black game. The game is working I can hear players moving and I get the rotating icons for marines and aliens that are usually visible in the pre-game room but no graphics load at all.

Posting your %appdata%/natural selection 2/log.txt file would be helpful.

That sounds like a video driver or video card control panel issue.. check your catalyst settings for ns2.exe
IF they were indeed "missing" textures they would be checkerboard textures .. not a black screen.
Definitely need that log file like Agiel says.

Alright bro you've got a shader problem.

Perform steps 2,3,4 in this thread: http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index....t=0&start=0

Verify that the files that are missing exist on your computer.
    for instance:
"Error: Couldn't load shader 'models/marine/marine.surface_shader' for material"
    can be found in
    "D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\models\marine"
for me... but your directory may be slightly different.

Verify the file is there and report back.
Also, try running the DXSETUP installer located in :
    D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\redist\DirectX

Got it thanks. Forwarded to the devs.

They've now posted they're working on this bug. But having an SSD seems to speed this process down to 1-4 minutes. My brother's tool 10-20 minutes at times.

5770 has similar performance to the 4870 1gb in many games. You're getting the same a tad low er frame rates than me with a 4870 1gb and an older q6600 cpu. Performance tweaks to Windows gave me a bit of extra juice.

I can't join any server. Not what the devs had in mind the evening a day after release I am sure... XD

They are working on it :) Apparently something went wrong with the official servers, but community servers are fine :P
