so these are my basic specs

i5 2500k oc'ed to 4.3 ghz
gtx 670 @ stock
16 gb ram

yet when i have everything maxed out im only getting average 60-70 fps. I'm not saying that the game doesnt look great, cause it really looks awesome. And no vsync is off.

Is this the performance i should be getting?

FC

i am playing at 1080p with all settings maxed out.

Turn the ambient occlusion from high and confirm what that gives you?

That doesn't answer his question, but ambient occlusion does take a big performance hit. To the OP, yes, that's inline with what people are getting with your setup and ingame settings.

You are complaining about 60-70 FPS?

Yes 60-70 fps sounds right. Remember this game is running on a custom inhouse engine. Which means it a new engine that still needs work. But its pretty damn great since one man made it happen.

Unfair to call the OP a troll for expecting more performance for a pretty modern PC given the posted reccomended system requirements.

    OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
    Processor:Core 2 Duo 3.0 ghz
    Memory:2GB for XP / 4GB for Vista/7
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, AMD 5770, NVidia GTX 450 or better

The developers will continue to improve performance, but I agree you should be getting more for your setup. Just lower your settings and turn off certain items like shadows and ao as others have suggested.

With a GTX 670 you will mostly be limited by your CPU in NS2 (yes, even with 4.3GHz). This means that changing settings will still improve your FPS, but not by that much.

Through my studies Ive found that Ambient occlusion takes 20 fps off and Shadows takes 15fps off. SO with both of those off I get 70fps, but I have a POS system. I usually have shadows on because it makes the game alot better.

    R_shadows 0

But what's the ambient occlusion command?

Also if u have multiple cores, use the multicore rendering option, obviously.
And of course the typical culprits like AA or bloom or atmospherics and shadows all contribute, but nothing comes close to the ~15 fps loss from Ambient Occlusion.
I'm sure it will be optimized (a mod for it has already been published for a better looking version in the tech support section i believe)

Keep in mind that as you turn off these options the game will get increasingly less pretty and immersive (which would be a shame because its beautiful!)
To the OP: Hit the console key (~) and type r_stats and then hit f12 for a stream screenshot and post a link to it here. (use imgur.com to host) and if you really feel as if something is wrong you can type "profile" in the console and then press the space bar to freeze the profile in a place and then take a screenshot of that and post it here..

You have a similar system to mine, and that's what I get. I have an i7-2600K and Radeon 7950.

Recommended does not correlate to "maximum". It would be a logical fallacy to use the recommended system and expect to run everything at maximum settings with an unspecified bump in requirements (which can be further obfuscated by AA/AF settings). Although one suggestion I would make is to have a system requirement for "Maximum settings".

For instance, Battlefield 3 Recommended System Requirements:
    <!--quoteo(post=0:date=:name=BF3 Blog)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BF3 Blog)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Recommended system requirements for Battlefield 3
    •OS: Windows 7 64-bit
•Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
    •RAM: 4GB
•Graphics card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or ATI Radeon 6950.
    •Graphics card memory: 1 GB
•Sound card: DirectX compatibl sound card
•Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I guarantee you that system will not have playable frame-rate at max settings (that system is playable around high settings).

Please could you take a screenshot of your graphics settings?
Do you also have anything set inside your GPU driver program to enforce AA or anything like that?

I hope they increase performance as well, but just be glad you can play it at 60-70 fps with graphics at a maximum. Most of us don't have that easy. ^^

It is an issue with the CPU not the GPU. The game has improved tremendously the last two months, hopefully we will see similar improvement moving forward.
