CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!11!!! to UWE and all the other volunteers and workers that have nurtured this project up to this 1.0 release. The progression from NS 1.0 to NS 3.2 through to NS2 Alpha/Beta has been long and varied. The open kimono development has been a model that should be studied and replicated. I'm so glad to be a Constie and SpecOps - worth every penny! Maybe one day I can do something great for the community to earn Squad5.
game locks up randomly in the last 2 patches. not like a crash because i can hit tilde and bring up the console. but ill just be walking along and then the game will freeze, then unfreeze and ill be a few feet from where i was. this seems like a network lag cept this is happening to no one else and my ping isnt jumping. itll freeze for like 5 secs, then unfreeze for awhile, then freeze again, unfreeze. etc. annoying

if you know how to use the profile you might be able to find out what is going on.
profile 1 starts the profiler. space pauses it and [ and ] lets you go left and right in the frames (you see them at the bottom). t and m let you toggle between some viewmodes.
It is amazing to see how far this game has come from this: <center><object width="450" height="356"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rq2NMGbefpg"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rq2NMGbefpg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" height="356"></embed></object></center> to the game it is today. I've watched the whole development very closely and have played every build and watched every NS2HD/Unknownworlds video. I have gathered 900 hours of play time, and still the game is fun and I enjoy every time I play it.
You guys did an amazing job and I can just say that this game turned out to be one of the best games I've played in years.
Congratulations!
edit: Also thanks to the PT group for their effort. Most people don't realize how much time you have spent to help this game becoming bug free.
Congrats guys and thank you for having this game made after your all too long development! Y'all deserve a vacation for your efforts. Have fun and relax for a while you most certainly deserve it!
Thank you UWE for your hard work and effort to bring NS2 to an official 1.0 release. Congratulations!
I am deeply thankful. You've brought tears to my eyes, literally when the clock struck 0. This game has had probably THE biggest impact on my direction in life. Whether it's creating online friends, or being proud to discuss such a deep concept of game design to those who aren't familiar with NS2, but most importantly, having fun.
All of you in the office, including your loved ones deserved this moment. I am truly happy for all of you, and don't even know how to be more appreciative besides buying extra copies of the game as I have done that already....and buy more of your NS1 merchandise. Bring on the NS2 T-shirts!
Going back in time once again, there I sat in my computer chair back in 2003. Owning "noobs" at Counter-Strike GldSrc, I begin to reach out trying new mods. I feast my eyes on my very first Natural Selection screenshot. In quick anticipation, I click the download button. I install, load up a server and find myself on NS_Caged. Not knowing what is happening, I begin to slowly adapt to the learning curve of NS and become addicted. I reach out to making new friends, joining clans, adminning servers, etc. NS1, switches over from WON to the Steam client. I send an email to Charlie asking for technical assistance on the subject and I get an immediate response back.....
You know how amazing that moment was to me? Unebelievably, one of the best things ever. I continue my passion for Natural Selection 1, when one day, a special trailer catches my eye. The one trailer that I knew would change games forever. That Infestation trailer. And to think, that the infestation was one of the very last details worked on to be shipped with what we're all playing currently right now. I just couldn't believe what I was watching. Every day, I would F5, (faster than Brian Number 1 could ever F5......that is a challenge sir) the UWE webpage for updates. Just remembering those first podcasts with Charlie and Max just makes me shiver how NS2 went from concept all the way to what we have now. Even remembering Cory's Marine weapon concepts makes me chuckle in regards to the length of time it's been since then.
Then we began to see more videos, and the first screenshots of marine structures, and then, that one day in April (28th I think it was) back in 2009. The teaser trailer. Well we all know how that was received. Well atleast for me, I was making probably the weirdest happiest noises that would scare almost about anyone, even you lads at UWE. I did not eat, I did not go to the bathroom. I just watched that teaser over....and over....and over....and, yeah you get the idea.
Level editor tool, engine test (woo wooden board bad guys), then Alpha, then Beta, and to where we are now! 6 years of active development, and 10 years later from the release of Natural Selection 1. You have one hell of a game.

Anyone else get the Light Blue/Dark Blue checkered boxes over players names when commanding? then sometimes it just crashes randomly or the whole screen goes Checkered and you cant see anything? Last version worked great for me, anyone know of a quick fix feel free to message me :)
Congratulations for the release and good luck for you! :-) I'm glad to see NS2 finally being released! :-) And the new dynamic infestation is cool so far!

A profiler is a performance monitoring tool that lets you see what part of the code is taking up how much CPU time. You use it to diagnose performance issues by finding the slowest parts of the code and speeding them up.
They usually show the information as a tree (cos that's how the code is structured - one function calls several other functions which may themselves call more functions etc).
I haven't used the NS2 profiler but probably the [ and ] keys are for navigating the tree to higher or deeper levels. The pause function is so you can stop it updating and see what the timings were when you paused it (e.g. when things suddenly got slow).
Start a server on your local machine and try it out.

Congratulations, UWE, a worthy successor to NS1 is born. There is still work to be done, and tweaks to be made, but as a long time NS1 player I can honestly say that NS2 has completely taken the place of NS1 in the stable of games that I play. I played classic for a long time on NS1, then switched to combat and back to classic towards the end, when active servers were being trimmed down to just one or two.
Last night was spent exploring the balance between Aliens and Marines on various maps, and I think that it's near ideal right now for the early game, where first impressions are made. Sure, new players on Marines have an advantage over new players on Aliens just learning to skulk for the first time, and I often saw skulks rushing straight at me with jaws snapping, instead of bouncing up walls, ceilings, taking cover and doing hit-and-run to catch the marines reloading. But that's with any new game, with experience (and advice from veterans) the new players will eventually catch on and start playing 'properly'. I remember my first time playing NS1 on aliens and my experience was not that much different than what new players are going through now.
This game is in a very, VERY crucial phase right now - acceptance by the general public. All veterans and anybody with vested interest in the game *have* to learn to tolerate newbie mistakes, and spend time guiding and instructing the new players. They don't need to learn how to JP shotty right off the bat, but they have to learn to weld stuff, build stuff, bile stuff, travel in packs, listen to the commander, and above all, hovar like a scorpian without flapping. Unless you're lorking on the clorf spiking the marines with shirtguns.
Congratulations UWE! Finally there, and what a launch it was! Impressive! Very nice finish with a great performance boost, DI, Refinery (awesome map!), setting up servers and delivering the final version 20 Minutes before launch. <3 <3 <3 Thanks Hugh, for setting up the livestream. You get an extra <3 :)
I also want to congratulate you for reaching your goal!
Making your dream become true must be a very satisfying thing, and I hope very much that all your power, tears and braincells invested in this game paid of for you (maybe not just in money, but also in personal self-fulfilment). I like your game a lot, and after already playing the beta I am eagerly looking forward, what is coming next. So UWE, thank you for this awesome game, wishing you the best for the next years!
>> Why i did not reply ealier ?: Such a bug (in b224), i thaught, would be noticed by the playtesters. (but its not their fault, because the bug doesnt happen all the time)
>> Situation - General: In early match as marine you get (sometimes) a "Health Progress of a Hive" (with location of course) when a new hive is dropped. Of course nobody was at the hive location at this time and nobody was shooting the hive at this time.
Had this 2 times (b224 or b225 and right now again in b227).

What happened to the game? :( I'm constantly crashing in the current build. Crashing when the game is almost in the server, in the blackscreen period before graphics appear. Crashing randomly during games. Crashing when typing in chat. Checkerboard problems are back, even though they were gone for a few builds. Here are some screenshots of my experience with v1.0 <img src="http://i.imgur.com/zU5LF.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i.imgur.com/tnaQr.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i.imgur.com/stPsY.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> Game worked very well for me last patch, no idea what changes are causing this. I have tried verifying and it didn't do anything for me.

I read "somewhere" on the forum - crashes could happen if you use overclocked hardware (cpu, graphics card) in b227, but i dont exactly know. (I dont mean by false overclocking! dont understand it wrong.)
Is your cpu or graphics card overclocked ?
BTW: i am getting no crashes (my hardware is not overclocked). Hardware: Phenom X6 1090, Radeon 6850.
Congratz to all UWE and anyone who helped make the game what it is today :) Game feels great ( even if performances surely need a bit of enhancement ) and it gives a nice feeling when you think about the first alpha release and what we play now.
it's funny i converted a friend to the game just because he kept seeing me playing the game :D

Try to join a game... server full. Try another server... full again. Ok no problem, but now the server list is empty and won't refresh anymore. Need to restart Steam.
Finally get into a game on an official UWE server. Pleasantly surprised by the performance ... ... until we reach the mid game. There the server's tick rate regularly drops below 15, my game begins to lag, especially when moving fast (blink, celerity), when opening the map or when entering combat. I love to hear this, but my game crashed every game, between 1 and 5 minutes. The fps has also not significantly improved (since the last time I played, about 15 patches ago), I'm quite disappointed! :(
Easy: Turn off Ambient Occlusion and the FPS stay above 30. You can right click on the game in steam and do a file check to make sure there is nothing missing.
Also: This is not a <!--coloro:#FF8C00--><span style="color:#FF8C00"><!--/coloro-->*snip*<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> console game, where everyone has the same hardware. If you want help, post your system settings. If you try to play this with a GPU fresh out of the hardware museum, no wonder you don't get decent performance. But then it's up to you to upgrade your rig.
