NS2 Crashes on joining and Explore Mode

Hello, title says it all, but basically whenever I try to join a server or use "Explore Mode" it crashes after getting to "Loading..." which is annoying because I can't play any variation of this game at all. I don't normally have problems with games, this one though, crashes when loading up a server or map or game or anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've actually gotten a few different popups, one even didn't have a message on it. I'm too frustrated to try again.

Running into the same exact thing. Game crashes and offers to send a log. At first it was crashing during shader compiling, after reinstalling it crashes at loading.

Mine does this every time when it begins to precache. Server, explore mode, it makes no difference. Help!

Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 560
CPU: Intel Core Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz
I play at 1600x900 resolution
RAM: 3.7 GB

do you have windows 7 32 bit because so far that seems to be a common factor of the posters in this thread

Try the steps here: http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...howtopic=122598

If that don't work, its a long shot but try installing this: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)

That has absolutely nothing to do with anything. the game is 32 bits, it runs as 32 bits. if it runs on windows 7 64 bits emulated as 32 bits, why would it not run on a windows 7 32 bits?

It is way beyond that. This isnt an incompatibility issue, soemthing is messed up with the game, it thinks its own files are of an invalid format

Actually it is COMPLETELY. Here's a post by another user on a similar thread:

"Taken from trouble shooting post on these forums

"Windows 32Bit
The Common Problem
32Bit systems can only Map a total combination of 4GB of System Dedicated RAM & Video RAM. : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605
This means if you have 4GB of System RAM & a GPU with 1GB of Video RAM your 32Bit system will map less System RAM and some of your Video RAM not always all of it.

The Solution
This is a problem for all games and the work around provided by all game engiens is to load only what it needs & unload resources that are no longer in use in order to try and run smoothly with the reduction of available memory caused by the 32bit system or simply a lack of it installed to begin with.

* The Spark Engine still has lots of features and functions yet to be written into the engine including efficient memory management, this may stop graphical artifacting and may vastly lower stuttering as you move through a level depending on your system specs when it is fully implemented.
If you notice artifacts in other games or stutters, this could be be your potential problem if you have a 32Bit system with 4GB Ram installed. The other cause is if you simply don't have enough Video Ram on your GPU in the first place for that game to run properly.

Here are some things to try (Let me know if it works) but at some stage you should consider buying a 64Bit system running a 64Bit OS.

* Got 4GB of RAM & 1GB GPU?, You could remove 1GB of RAM so your system can try & map all your Video memory.
Only do this if your a confident system builder, poor handling & storage of a chip and exposure to static will damage it.

* In your GPU settings panel, Lower the number of Pre-Rendered frames to 1 or 0
(Results vary on systems changing this setting up and down will get rid of or create problems like: Input Lag & Stuttering)"

Looks like this problem is going to be very difficult to fix... "

It does because of the way 32-bit Windows caps your usable RAM regardless of how much you have installed on your system and how the game's engine interacts with that:

sounds like this is most likely the cause of all the crashing. going to test the pre-rendered frames on 1 and report back
