Where Is Clip Brush?

<div class="IPBDescription">Please don't laugh at me.</div> Um...what do you guys use for a clip brush? I tried to use the null brush but it just makes it so you can see through the walls. Do you use the half-life wad or something? I'm only using ns wad until I make some of my own textures and I can't find a clip brush to keep people from getting stuck on edges and things like that. Any help will be appreciated. Just don't hurt me if its obvious.

    Welcome to the Q1 3D Engine were the Texture of an Object sets its behaviour (sound, water, effects ...), too.

    <b>A Clip-brush is just any Object with the Texture named "CLIP"</b>
    Ingame it becomes an invisible Wall (aliens cant climb along).
    Clip brushes are important for places of your map you can stuck in...

    Other very special textures are:
    AAATRIGGER, best used for trigger fields because its invisible and you can walk throught.
    ORIGIN , necessary for all rotateable objects, to set a rotating axix, invisible and walk throught.

    Hey thanks, but what I mean is there is no clip brush in ns.wad. I notice that none of the official maps seem to use half-life.wad, so am I missing something? Maybe a clip brush is bad because aliens can't walk on it anyways.

    P.S. Also should I paint every face outside my map and inbetween brushes with the null brush? To help keep r_speeds down.

    Rictus,
    Are you asking about the CLIP texture? I don't have it in ns.wad either.

    *shrug*

    I haven't used it yet, but I've only mad test.bsp yesterday. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yes use the CLIP texture from the HL.WAD. Don't bother with the NULL, when you VIS the map all the external faces get dropped anyway.

    If anyone is wondering, it is <b>perfectly fine</b> to use the halflife.wad (and in fact necessary for things such as CLIP, AAATRIGGER, ORIGIN, etc), just so long as the textures you use from it don't make levels look half-lifey. About 25% of Hera's textures were from Halflife, but you couldn't really tell, could you?

    The reason why the HL wad is extremely useful to use is because it contains a huge amount of 'glue' textures, generic textures, lights, etc, which can all be used in many different situations. The NS wad has extremely few of these.

    I'd love to see some one produce a hi res set of glue textures (with light shaders of course). The half life ones are practical, but old.
