The 224 "Movement Stutter" Issue (and other problems)

<div class="IPBDescription">Let's have a CALM discussion here!</div>Okay, after playing 224 many of us have probably noticed a stutter issue when moving. I'll try to shed some light on the issue.

I will not throw unnecessary amounts of hate at UWE for just this mistake. You shouldn't either.

I do not take credit for finding all of this information. I'm simply posting some findings, whether it be mine or not.

The first server I joined had this MASSIVE amount of lag/stutter when I made any sort of movement other than with the camera.

EX. Running Jumping

Thinking it was just a sole server issue, I turned to a different server (KKG 2). The problem was much smaller but was still noticeable. We changed maps to take a look at the changes to them. This time, the amount of lag changed back to that of the first server I joined. We changed again and again, with no difference. Sometimes I didn't change with everyone else. Not sure if this was a crash. Had to re-enter the server.

I also couldn't use the text chat.

Master Blaster commented on the chaos going on in the console. Sadly, my screenshot didn't turn out well of it. It basically was a huge list of the prediction code, except it was going haywire. Constantly bugging out and changing. Thanks MB noticing.

Then, PrinceKahuna (Can't spell your real name, sorry) somehow figured out that part of the problem was indeed tied to NS2Stats. He did something with it (disconnected?), and most of the problem vanished. Could type again. Although, I'm not sure if this was just me, but I thought I felt a but of residual suttering still. Don't know.

Can anyone else give some good pics?
Can anyone tell what the code means?
Why is it involved with NS2Stats?

Credit due goes to people listed above. I felt the need to start a thread about this, as the inevitable hate is coming.

Please. I ask you to contain the troll within you and give UWE some slack. I expect another build like 223 to come out within maybe two days.

From the news post on the main page: "Note: there is a "hitch" when you come to a stop. We know about this and will fix it shortly, but wanted to get all the other improvements out to you in the meantime."

If there were issues unrelated to that (not too sure from your post) then please, by all means, hunt it down!

Maybe it was a little pre-emptive to make a stutter thread with that notification, but I wanted to tide over some early hate I expected. There were a few weird things like not being able to type, but that'll probably be fixed along with the stutter right? Will this be like the 223 fix?

I got a screenshot of it. This was spamming in my console, constantly. It was causing my to do little.... hops or something when I jumped, and yes, I also could not use my chat keys.

I should also mention that this started after a map change.

We didn't see this in playtesting so I'd bet it's a problem with NS2Stats which will be fixed shortly by the creators of that mod. The only problem we saw is the very slight rubberbanding as you come to a stop and matso is probably working on it as we speak.

That is a distinct possibility. I was on an All-In server, and I see that they use NS2Stats.
  • sushia11sushia11 Join Date: 2012-10-12 Member: 162112Members
Yeah, the big lag I was referring to happened before we modified the NS2Stats thing with the server. Second half of my post was about the rubberbanding. I may have sounded a little loud, sorry 'bout that. Just wanted to keep the community under control for the time being lol. I'm sure you guys are working hard :)

We will check if the stuttering is related to NS2Stats as soon as possible.

However NS2Stats are not yet working for this build so, as always, please disable the mod until we have updated the code to work with 224. We will let you know when the new version of the mod is up and running.

After a new patch you should play on a server without any mods at first. Also remove client side mods if you use any. Give mod devs time to test their mods for compatibility. If you're on a modded server and experience a bug the first thing you should do before you bother UWE is to make sure the bug isn't because of some addon.

The hitching is a tribute to the alpha OK

Apart from the hitching there's an annoying "weapon switch" bug where sometimes when you switch to another weapon and press fire "too quickly," your old weapon fires sometimes -_- . Happens even as skulk (e.g. you bite when switching to parasite and firing really quick).

    Not very desirable IMO.

NS2stats disabled until it is updated for 224. NS2stats was disabled about 5 minutes after we updated the servers. It might still say ns2stats in the name though, I forgot to change that.

That could be an issue with the new system merging move commands. It could merge a weapon switch and attack command into one and then process them in the wrong order since order is not preserved.

There's no spam like lua spam :) I'd suggest playing on non-ns2stats servers for a few days until they get the mod updated.

It shouldn't do that - it breaks merging if the set of active commands changes.

Could you guys issue a quick hotfix tomorrow or Saturday or whenever with just the "movement hitching" and "weapon switch" fixes - and ideally with a (toggle?) for the old red hitreg marker pleeease?

    I'd love you long time.

Also, the grenade launcher lost its crosshair. Is this by design o_0 ?

Is the animation/movement issue with crouch walking backwards still in? I generally got weird hitchy movement instead of smoothly moving.

All three KKG servers are free of the mod NS2Stats and have been as soon as we found out ns2stats was causing issues. Feel free to join without issues.

Game still hitches terribly even on KKG servers.

This hitching occurs even when running in a straight line without stopping.

Confirming I'm getting a lot of stuttering as well - playing on non-modded servers.

Me too. Seems like most people aren't experiencing it, so I hope it's not something separate from the hitching issue mentioned in the patch notes.
