When Are We?

According to the Techtrope article on the mainpage (http://www.natural-selection.org/world_marine1.html), the TSA had 3 months until June 21XX to see how well the Frontiersmen could manage against the aliens. My question is, with respect to that deadline, where are we as we play NS today? Is it before/after/during this 3-month phase?

I browsed quickly through the pages of this forum, but I couldn't find the answer. I'm very new to NS and I really like the setting, so hopefully someone can fill me in.

    I'm talking about as we actually play NS right now. When you load up ns_nancy later tonight and go kill more alien scum, are you killing those alien scum during that 3-month test phase? after? before?
