never ending downloading mods loop and client differs from the server message

friend of mine has that problem

he verified his game files with no luck
he re downloaded the whole game with no luck
he made sure to activate all mods and synch with the steam cloud
restarting the steam client did not work either

he simply can not join servers which others can join without changing any settings after doing a fresh re install.

he gets stuck at the loading screen -downloading mods -initializing and then he gets this client files differ from the server message.

he plays on servers like HBZ or skulk factory, ive connected to them to see if it is a server problem, but it worked flawlessly. i have not played the game since it introduced mod downloads, and it worked flawlessly for me, except on mapchange, i had to activate the mod checkboxes for all these custom maps.

i cant see the problem with it, anyone else got problems with the loading screen when it downloads mods? i was already blaming his computer, but i cant see what would causing that.

also, i vote for server filters, and pure server option, or a server info which displays the mods which are running, or at least some icon which shows that it is a mod server

Same thing happens to me, the loading screen freezes when it hits "downloading mods" and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to kill the game. It doesn't help that there's no way to tell if a server is running mods.

Try running NS2 as administrator. Fixed it for me.

Another thing you could if running as administrator is disabling and unsubscribing from all Workshop mods, opening %APPDATA%\Natural Selection 2\ and deleting the Workshop folder.

    Then restart NS2.

NS2 will automatically download the mods which are installed on the server you are playing in, there is no need for you to subscribe to them.

Those workarounds are most probably no longer necessary for the next patch by the way
