    Nice thread.

I'm really looking forward to 156 getting up and competing. Forgive my ignorance, but what happened to All-In? I haven't heard much from them lately... it'd be great to see them active too.

Edit: forgot to thank Nexzil for repeatedly kicking the crap out of us. It's definitely helping!

Very nice thread, I can definitely feel the good vibes!
Now can we get back to immature drama pls? ;)

Joke aside, I think it's super awesome to see the many new EU teams, even though daedal merged into nexzil.EU :P
Lets hope for lots of new teams when we hit release, kinda feeling sad for non-EU comp players atm!
I would like to make a shout out for Eissfeldt, probably our best marine. He needs more love!

    Also, gorges are win.

Yeah I heard about this. I guess it's still a different team, so it doesn't hurt the population. I do wonder what they're going to do about their comm situation though. Hunter is the main comm for both nxzl and nxzl.eu? What are they going to do when both teams play in the same tournament?

Duplex are too cool to pcw against arc, which makes me sad. :(

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->So for a more direct question what in your opinion is required to win for teams such as Duplex, Exert, or Arc and what did it take to get where you are? Are there any straight forward strats emerging like in NS1 (hive gorge, rt/fade ect ect) like you have a hive gorge with hydras, a designated RT muncher, or do you even split the map into areas of responsibility? I'm not asking for clans to give up their secrets or anything, just help us struggling clans out.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

:) arrange a scrim with nexzil, against nc and oag now, after a few games, we have started playing with semi random (mixed) teams, just to give newer clans a feel for how to prepare pregame tatics, how to coordinate ground troops (ambushing, creating rushes, splitting between offense and defense, distraction), the importance of tweaking a build order to deal with the other teams tatics/expected tatics and more!

I felt that these mixes were quite helpful to oag and nc, great people as well, and very enjoyable games.

Also, against a helpful opposition, its allways worth asking for their opinion , we had some very helpful chats with inversion in preperation for the finals of the wasabi cup, if ur scrimming good guys, they may give you their opinion of what you did wrong that tipped the balance of the battle.

Also, you can get a merc or two! one or two seasoned players on your team, especially (imo) a seasoned comm, can drastically reduce your learning curve, and many players that love playing in the comp scene (myself included), are much happier playing as a merc in a scrim, than on a pub.

Yeah, agreed... Duplex is kinda cool (although other euro clans are cool too!). I think that at this point, the best games for me personally are the ones against Duplex. We seem to be pretty evenly matched most of the time, so the games tend to be exciting and something close to the NS2 experience at its best. Archaea-noobs I don't like so much, since playing against them always seems like climbing up a steep hill while getting kicked in the face. Learn to be worse, please ;) ... Oh, and a shout out to all the other clans out there, especially euro clans: More matches! If the scene lacks clans, lets make it up by playing double the amount ;)

    Lack of drama is disturbing

I also would like to say that getting into competitive is not hard, all you need to do is to want it.

There's no skill or activity requirement, there will be a team for you or you can make one yourself.

How do you guys feel about the state of tactical diversity now we've reached feature lockdown?

Also, which is more fun in competitive: fade or lerk?

Unfortunately, many them have been very disappointed with the development and direction of the game, and while they try it every once in a while, they don't find it enjoyable enough to play it seriously. I talked to b1 about it only a few weeks ago, and that was still his impression of NS2.

Hopefully that will change as further improvements are made and the game tightens up before release!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Thanks for replying, I hope they start playing as I enjoyed playing with them (along with other such skilled players) on the YO server when they were on. :)

Pretty tough question as the current fade and lerk are not very viable in competetive play.
This is mostly due to the recent speednerf of lerk and blink. And being able to drop onos egg with just 2 hives up.
Before the speednerf of blink I really enjoyed playing fade.
However, I like being able to shadowstep downwards. It's very powerful in big rooms combined with blink to gain air.

I'd say the lerk has a viable place in competitive play, albiet a narrow one at the moment. It can actually be a very useful hit and run lifeform early game, and its a very effective scout (although the speed nerf dimisinishes that capacity a bit).

The real trouble comes from its low survivability in engagements larger than 1v1. Against a lone marine, a lerk is almost always going to win, especially if it gets its first bite for free. But mid to late game, as marines start teching up, this becomes less and less likely. Shotguns are the real trouble, and that they can appear so quickly greatly recduces the early game viability of the lerk. Once shotguns are out, or the marines get to weapons 2, the lerk really has to play much more defensively, and its very likely that he'll just be bursted down without accomplishing much.

The lerks role changes a bit, and he becomes viable again, once spores becomes available. However its still a toss up in terms of resource investment whether you want to get this over bile bomb, blink, or other upgrades, so its generally relegated to a late game upgrade.

Its a great lifeform, it just needs some more love before it can really find a good niche.

Had a thought, any way the ENSL guys could create a layout like they have in their gathers for clans? Queue your clan name up in a general area other clans know to look and we could see who is ready to scrim. I am sure #156 would scrim a lot more if scheduling wasnt such a pain. Weekends are golden and i could see US clans getting on this site mid day to catch those easy euro clans :P or the Euro's sticking around knowing they can get face rolled late at night *looking at you Arc*.

ENSL's gather format is truly awesome and i dont think you guys get enough credit for setting that up. It has sharpened my skills where pubs seem to dull them. I wish more people knew about the ENSL gather or it was integrated into the NS UI instead of the separate system UWE set up. Joining the website or from the browser should get you to the same place.

We have a great foundation for the flood of new clans on release day. What can we do to make these already awesome tools more known. Not every goes on forums where you would here about ENSL.

So, with the Guru tournament concluded, I have some new thoughts.

Very impressed with exertus, dealing with the american teams in the lower bracket like a boss and bouncing back from their mediocre performance in the previous tournament. I'm not at all surprised though! Like I said after that tournament:
    <!--quoteo(post=1985302:date=Oct 1 2012, 12:07 AM:name=fanatic)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (fanatic @ Oct 1 2012, 12:07 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1985302"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Exertus had a pretty bad weekend though and I suspect we'll see them back in force in the next tournament.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
We (archaea) have been practising with exertus almost every day the past couple of weeks and I've definitely noticed them getting sharper and sharper. I remember initially scoffing at their marine strat on veil, since we always beat them when they used it, but then they started perfecting it... Now, they probably have the strongest marine round on veil out of all the teams. Very cool.

It's also nice to see Inversion participating in tournaments! Their roster is very different from the one I played in last year, but there's a lot of talent there and I'm sure we'll see them place even higher in future tournaments.

It was very interesting to see all the crazy strats being used this tournament. Exertus in particular had some very interesting stuff, like the shift + mass egg spawn rush on tram and doubleres drop on veil for 6:30 onos. While I don't think all of these strats were viable (hypermutation and mass lerk come to mind), it made for fun games and I'm glad people are willing to experiment even in official games.

For player performances, I want to give a shoutout to Treffnix (archaea), for playing sick marine rounds all night, and to Koruyo (archaea), for his off the charts skulking on tram in the final. Elmo (exertus) keeps impressing me on marine and Eissfeldt's (duplex) quad skulk kill with the machinegun against Inversion is definitely worth mentioning.

You will be pleased to hear that Arga is currently working out a "PCW finder system" for <a href="http://www.ns2hub.com" target="_blank">www.ns2hub.com</a>
It is still in the works, so get over there and give him some feedback!
I'm really looking forward to it, as I think this will be a great asset for finding matches.

American NS2 needs its own scene separate from the Europeans. The ping discrepancies are ridiculous and it is such a waste of time. Is anyone working on creating a league? There's about a 15 day window to create one that doesn't suck.

Also how is 1st person spectating and a demo viewing system not implemented yet?
