Compiling Settings...

Hi all,

Having really basic troubles here....

Can anyone please reply with the settings required for either the F9 option settings in Worldcraft for compile or the TBCC settings as I can't seem to get either to compile a map I can find on my system.. It runs through the compile as usual, then gets to "copy to clipboard" final stage but the map is not accessable in NS.

Am I missing something really stupid here (I am trying to compile a small section of map for general run around purposes so not all major functions are set up. Does this mean the map is unavailable due to incompleteness).

Any help (even "you fool of course it won't work because....") is welcomed..

Eejoot

Tools - options - Build Programs
and
Tools - options - Game configuration

Must be set up...:

search for:
your HL folder...
HL/NS Folder
ns.fgd (contains NS special entities)
ns.wad (for textures)
hl/valve/maps (for a temporary save of your map)

VHE installation folder
/tools
...CSG
...BSP
...VIS
...RAD

A mimimum map is a hollowed cube with an "info_player_start" entity inside of it.
Be patient.

something about NS editing and entities.

I have all that and then some... The map compiles but NS doesn't detect it... could be "tagging" it as a CS map or something..

I just feel I am missing something really stupid.... My next thought is to remove all CS setting from worldcraft so they can't interfer in any way with NS settings I have put in... (possible as I have two set ups one for CS and a new one for NS)

You can see how silly this is getting... once I get one map to work then the serious mapping can start...

the F9 settings I am on about are the "$$3ext dir" etc which pops up when you F9 to compile map... I just need to check they are right really...

Thanks for reply though as it may be something really simple which is going wrong... any ideas I can go yes or no to are a benefit at this stage...

I am off to study the links (thanks for them) and see if any answers appear...

To all who post with suggestions....

The worst possible thing has happened and all those married mappers out there will sympathise with me here...
I have been banned from ("That damn heap of *%$& in the corner. You spend all your &*£%ing day on it!" ) my sweet PC by my sweeter wife for the Christmas period.... Right when all the best map ideas are popping into my head and right when with your help I can get the map to open... Ha, I'll be banned from scribbling on bits of paper by tomorow too I bet...

I will try to slip a quick look at replies when I get a chance but may not be able to seriously address my problem or reply until after the festivities (or the wife goes out shopping )

Many thanks in advance for your help.... I'll be back as soon as I can...

If your are trying to start the map through the menus (multiplayer->LAN->Create) it won't find the map because you haven't built a minimap yet. You have to start your map from the console (map mapname) and build the minimap (buildminimap in the console).

Other things, have you got an info_player_start (as opposed to info_deathmatch_start) in your map you need info_player_starts for NS.

Have you checked it's actualy placing the map in your /NS/Maps folder?

That could be it! The minimap!

Thanks Chrome Angel....

Keep up all your hard work as you are an inspiration to the rest of us...
