To be honest I've never tried Gorging egg on/above things in this patch.

I would try to forget it, but it won't make the offensive sentries go away any faster.

egging seems really broken this patch. multiple times I've been teleported randomly when evolving. Most notable times is once in a vent I tried to evolve and it put me in the middle of tram hub, on a crate, where a big fight was going on. Another time I went to evolve near a cyst wall, the only thing that could have blocked me was a single bump in the geometry. When I went to go gorge it put me inside the marine base (?!?!?!). I think this patch is all about trolling me.

The egg porting to the neerest "egg-able" surface is to avoid exploits, and people going onos in vents getting stuck, and other shananigans.
So it is NOT something that will be changed.

seems like it needs fixing to me. It appears to be limiting by the surface and not by the area that you can evolve in. It was fine before when you can gorge in a gorge-sized vent, has the playtester group commented on this change at all? It's really counter-intuitive...

Its true that while it solves some things, it could be better.
Its the first (or 2nd?) iteration of it and didnt get a whole lot of testing, just a few days, so give it some time and i'm sure they'll get it refined. :)

Better yet would be NOT start gestating at all, if the surface doesn't allow it. The player simply needs some kind of indication (eg. sound) if it's not possible to gestate. I think the way ns1 did this worked quite well.

    This.

Random egg teleportation has to be the worst idea to fix this problem ever.

I agree too. Most people try and look for a safe spot to evolve. Now when I find one I'm immediately placed back into a potential danger zone. If there's issues with evolving on certain types of terrain then that's fine -- just block them from evolving rather than let people waste their resources because they didn't realise they'd teleport to a location where they can be shot at. People shouldn't be potentially penalized for this sort of thing.

Agreed, who keeps coming up with these kind of solutions I wonder, they do more bad than they do good.

Well, the intention is often good. It just doesnt feel like they (or balance changes) get internally tested at all

i would prefer that aliens are only able to switch life-form nearby hives or at the very least on infestation. :/

yeah i was surprised they didn't just prevent you from egging if the space was too small.

Well, the best solution is for the key to do what its suppose to (i.e. hitting B should always allow you to evolve), the second best is the current egg teleport, and the third best is to not let it do it with some sort of sound or visual indicator.

no no no, 2nd best is NOT egg teleport. egg teleport is way down the list past "you die when you try to evolve in an invalid spot"

quit trying to exploit the game, then egg teleporting wouldnt be such an issue...

exploite the game? :S evolve near the wall and now your in another room yet that person was trying to exploit the game? lol

I agree with most the pple here, you should always be able to see the evolve menu (unlike previous versions) so u can see what upgrades your commander has invested in, but if you aren't able to evolve there for w/e reason just not let you evolve and move on to another damn spot! lol

I'd flip that second and third in a heartbeat. Let ME find an advantageous spot that works, don't force me to go to a different spot that might ruin what I had in mind.

    +1

Could also force an onos in a room where he can get stuck (seen it happy pretty funny actually.. probably not for him though after typing kill in console and throwing away all that pres)

Exploits? Yeah cause it's not fair for marines when a skulk finds a cool spot to gorge at and bile bomb marines but it's perfectly fine for marines to run up walls and get into vents 20 feet above the floor.

As an alien commander it was a strategic to place upgrades in the vent next to the repair hive on tram, so marines couldn’t kill them until jetpacks, until they removed it. So since UW want to be ######s about it, I just place them on top of the map where they can’t be killed at all.

Alien respawn times are just broken no matter how you look at it. It’s a cool idea but keep it as an idea. If there aren’t enough eggs the timer just resets and if there are enough it’s still a 12 – 15 second timer even if only 1 alien is dead. While marine can build as many ips as they want, I think I’ve gotten up to 7 on 1 cc.

Reset the marine sprint to what it was in patch 218. Everyone is saying they run too fast, well that’s only alien’s saying that and once they have leap or celerity it’s no longer an issue. Players are complaining cause for some 10 or 15 seconds marines can out sprint a skulk, then hid somewhere when they run past. I’ve done this many times and even when skulks look towards my direction they don’t see me, hive vision anyone?

The half down doors in sub on veil are just stupid. Someone said it was to remove marines from camping the vent shooting eggs. ?. The only way for marines to get into that vent is with jetpacks or a boast. With the doors the way they are it’s a massive disadvantage to aliens cause they can no longer bile bomb from that vent. People were probably complaining that bile bomb was too op cause gorges can arc it while bullets go straight.

But most notably UW broke the glass in terminal on docking preventing me from dropping my gorge poo into marines base with hydras on it!

It's beta and the game hasn't officially come out yet but on that note when October 31st comes, will have a Natural Selection 2 version 1.0

    Then
    1.1
    1.2
    1.3
    1.4
    1.5

And the game will be finished about the time UW come out with Natural Section 3 Alpha.
