Protect Your Gorges

Assume from the beginning that the marines are already heading to the hive locations 30 seconds into the game. The little gorge who runs off to make another hive will be under attack sooner than later. If he dies (and gorges often do) you will have to start the whole waiting process over.

Make sure a couple skulks at least are with the gorge at all times. It's preferred that the bodyguards are the best players who know how to kill. Distract the marines' attention away from the gorge if you can.

Here's a tip- There are many nice hiding spots along the ceiling usually reserved for skulks. While the gorge is saving up, have him jump onto a skulk. If he keeps jumping while the skulk climbs the wall, he can reach any height. In fact, the skulk himself becomes an instant shelf to sit on. Here's a picture to illustrate.

    LOL. That's a good tip.

    Kudos, man.

I hate to break it to you, but I think it may be more of an exploit than a tip.

    please protect your gorges!

there's nothing wrong with letting skulks boost people up to high places. It's not like it happens all the time, usually you can't get a person to even cover you in the first place

Please explain how that would be considered an exploit?

I doubt the devs foresaw something such as that when the game was being created. I also doubt it would be considered an exploit.

It's like stacking and rocket jumping. Yes, they weren't intended originally but they enhance the game rather than detract from it (like the donating bug). Besides, it requires teamplay to pull off, and anything which encourages teamplay has to be a good thing

If its so early in the game, why doesn't the skulk just climb up to the ceiling spot in the first place, and then evolve to gorge. The time it takes for a gorge to travel from one side of the map to the other is just plain ridiculous anyway.

Good tip anyway for boosting gorges to higher levels!

Oh yeah, just one more thing, how does the gorge get back down?

Well, if the gorge does not evovle as soon as he can, he loses resources to other skulks, as he does not count for 3 shares yet. That means slower RTs, DCs, and hives...

The gorge can fall. Either that, or he can have the skulk walk him down.

Usually the same gorge who builds a few resource nodes saves up for the hive, so they can't really be busy saving on the cieling somewhere at the same time. Also, the 13 res it takes to evolve back is waaay too much for that stage of the game. Great tip though, never thought of that.

If you're serious into it, your gorge should probably not even leave the hive position until he's got the resources for his mission (i.e. 22 for res node, or 14 for defensive chamber)
    1) You can evolve on top of the hive. Useful for healing the hive up to full health. (I guess the hive doesn't start with full health, but like 1/2 max hive hp. Never really noticed it on the forums, but generally talking to knowledgable players and dropping a hive very quickly with a shotgun makes me agree with this)
    2) A res node and 3 defensive chambers later (maybe more res nodes), you will have level 3 REDEMPTION. I rolled with redemption for the first time today as a gorge, and it works nice. I got into 3 near death instances and was redeemed on each one. Sadly, lag caused a nice pistol bullet to finish me off on the first 1, but the next 2 completely failed to even kill me.
    3) On the "Perfect" team, and I doubt you'll see much of it on pubs, those marines shouldn't even get close to you without being parasited/skulk raped.

the hive starts out with 1/2 health

this will change in 1.4, where the hive will have full health.

skulk/lerk riding isnt an exploit, no more than stacking in cs is. its using teamwork to reach otherwise inaccessable (kinda) areas. pefectly legal, and kinda slick in my book.
