3dsmax 4, great program, takes a while to learn it, but when you figure it out it's far better than milkshape <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

lol I'm a n00b when it comes to just about any modeling program. And I tried Milkshape, and for some reason I can't import any models or anything from the NS folder, its mdl and I can only attempt to import models from the Serious Sam selection. Can anyone help me out?
you need to decompile them first. use the 'tools->half-life->decompile normal hl model' thing, then go to 'file->import->half-life SMD' and pick the smd with filename starting with 'ref_' or something.
How do you guys afford those programs??? $1500 to $2000!!! What about truespace, its alot cheaper and for a non-pro like me. Anyone ever used it? I got milkshape and its good but limited, price is right though.
I tried Truespace back when it was 2.0, but I've never been in to 3D stuff until recently, with Milkshape. For my needs, Milkshape is enough. Tried Max 3 on someone else's computer a year ago, or so. Went through a few tutorials and tossed it all in the air. Couldn't handle it. Just not my cup of tea.
Im new to 3d modeling and saw this post. ive been using milkshape and d/led this full tutorial on how to model a girl and ive bene doing it for the past 2 days and it tells u step by step what to do. its a good tool to use when learning. but i was wondering. does anyone know of any good site for programming? i wanna mess around with programming and need some tips.. thx. if u wanna use the girl tutorial put a post on here and ill give u link, thx alot. peace

hope I can get my minigun done in the free 30 days ;-)
if you plan to get serious about animating, is max or maya for you.
