It was clear that Blizzard didn't give two ###### about fans of the original Diablo franchise, but this is just the icing on the cake.

Brevik was honest if a little indulgent in his interview.

It's pretty poor that Haga has this "sudden" reaction when the problems with D3 have been known and discussed extensively. It's almost as if this interview is the first piece of negative feedback he's seen.

The idea that D3 sales were based on a well designed product is laughable. D3 sales were based on expectation & marketing hype. Pre-orders for a game delivered by digital download, right? Hurry while stocks last!

Brevik deserves more credit for the D3 sales figures than the industry would give him, so I think the indulgence is a pretty human reaction.

Willson's comment should get him fired.

The rest of them ragging on hellgate should take a minute to remember what it's like to work for a studio that doesn't have infinite dollars, not to mention the artistic/creative process which comes up with new IP is wayyyyy more difficult than just pooping out a sequel.

I logged in to D3 today and my friends list was all *tumbleweeds*. A number of them haven't logged in for 73 days.

The blizzard forums are a terrible, terrible place. What the forum goers lack in sentience they make up with in rage and malevolance. Is it any wonder the developers don't engage with their fanbase?

David Brevek (the original creator of the series) just came out and agreed that the new guys ****ed it up as they didn't know what they were doing, or why the previous games were good from a technical and design standpoint. Sounds like it just stung a little more, having him go 'yeah, they screwed the pooch and made it into a blatant cash-grab without making it a GOOD game first' than the legions of customers saying the same thing.
I don't think the D3 development team spends a lot of time on the forums. Partially because they have people to filter through the detritus for them, partially because they probably do not have a strong urge to have their family members accused of lewd behaviour on an hourly basis, and partially because they have actual development work to do. What all this leads to is a certain disconnect from the community, where it becomes easy to shrug off the angry voices as pathetic losers who wouldn't know majesty if it bit them in the face. After all, the game sold well! And people are flocking to the auction house! And *I* am proud of the game we made, and does it really matter what the naysayers cry about?
And that's why, when a credible voice comes along and echoes all those remarks you've ignored, it hurts. And that, in turn, leads to emotional outburts like we've seen here.
This has been "Bull###### Philosophy With lolfighter." Tune in next week, when I explain why you shouldn't give Notch a hard time for going on vacation twice a month!
I find it sad that they say "You made the fastest selling PC game of all time" - that doesn't mean anything. Shouldn't he say "you made a great game" instead?
It sold so fast because of Diablo's prior reputation, and it's one thing to make Hellgate london like it was for them, as an underdog studio, and another thing to have infinite money to make a sequel to an established IP. Continuing something is much easier then making something new. Which makes it that much worse that they ###### up Diablo 3 so bad.
After all the team has been through surely you wouldn't want to make them into liars too :p
http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/jay-apologizes
lol
I really started to dislike blizzard after they merged/sold to Activision. You saw completely shameless micro-transaction cash cow schemes in every single one of their games after that. I wonder if it was Activision who hired Jay =P
hopefully this isn't the attitude of UWE vis a vis NS2 beta-> release
Also, David Brevik is apparently a ######.
I'd like to highlight this portion of Jay's apology.

QUOTE

All these people and many others made the commitment to Diablo even after Blizzard North shut down. It was hard for me to see their contributions be diminished by someone they worked alongside, and even harder for me not to try to jump to their defense.

This is why Brevik is a ######. He should be apologizing to the D3 team as well.
... And yeah, this is really making Blizzard look bad.
http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/jay-apologizes

You apologize to the person you insulted.
Wilson apologizes to the Blizzard community that his idiotic sentence went into the public, nothing else.
Here's a quote from him after the insult but prior to his "apology":
â€That… is indeed my own message. We originally thought that was a private, non-public discussion thread, not something we wish to announce to the public. This was an unfortunate accident.â€
Basically everything he says now is PR.
@Psyke: WHAT did Brevik do wrong? He said he would have done it different and Blizzard are now changing the game because many criticized it. So they DID it wrong in the first place, there's nothing else to say about that.
Wilson worked most of his time on RTS games while in Blizzard. No one is blaming him for making mistakes due to the missing experience with ARPG (keep in mind Blizzard North basically invented the genre and set it's standards). Changing what they did wrong but insulting Brevik for the criticism...which they now adapt to in changing the game is like:
"We change it for you players, because you're idiots who don't realize that our version of Diablo 3 is perfect."
wrong brevik?
It took me reading all that crap twice and googling before I actually understood what the OP was about. Like we're all supposed to know who the ###### these clowns are, or that you just start going off about Diablo 3 assuming everyone cares about it.
Drama on the internet about... the internet.
