Remove / keep?
Personally I despise the thing for several reasons.

1. It is intrusive and not friendly to the ambience or enviroment, I mean for the moment it is just the most hidious thing I have ever seen.

2. It portrays information worse than the % info we had, how many time have you been saying extractor at 15% or hive 34% right?? to not be able to get that info from the bar when building or repearing is frankly making it close to useless. I know it was probatly ment to be a way to intuitivly show information but when it masks the info you want, how usefull is it really?

3. Build tool, they are cool and showed info in a rly good way without breaking immersion by intergrating it in the enviroment and world insted of having this bar that appear out of nowhere. I mean the rifles, shotguns, eveything is meant to provide info without breaking immersion and then this!!

4. Takes way to long to disappear

If I though about it I could probatly find more wich I dislike about it, but that would be just digging for resons to hate it. I defenitly don't like it at all, especially in it's current state.

If it is to be in then I would like to see the ability to disable it or have it reworked to fit better into the game. the last system worked better than this so if you want maybe could switch between the 2.

I never posted before and was one of the guys who joined the mass that came after TB's vids.
Really never played NS1 but has played loads...I mean loads of the NS2 beta and this is just my opinions and thoughts what are yours?
should we keep it, rework it(maybe put it in the corner of the screen etc) or thow it out completely?
You know where I stand.

Thx for reading and see you ingame
peace out

There are better less obtrusive progress counters in the game already.

    It's on the builder/welder tool.

IMO the new progress bar and visible hives/cc need to go or at least be optional.

    +1 !!
I really don't get how the multiple, current implementations are not easy enough to read and understand for new players?
As that is the only reason behind this new wretched addition.

Plenty of other things that need noob friendly ness added to them, like for instance when you need welding how do you know which marine has a welder?

Yeah the progress bar needs to go.
We already had the display on the build tool and the health circle on the ground, the bar is completely redundant and looks out of place.

It was perfect and now it has some weird arcade feel to it.
  • MiniH0wieMiniH0wie Join Date: 2007-11-25 Member: 63013Members
    Needs to go.

Progress % should say on the welder/builder tool. No need for redundancy.

I am going to wait till the proper progress bar is implemented before I decide if I prefer the old % progress.

Just voicing my oppinion so the devs can see a larger topic.

In it's current state, it needs to go. If they can implement it in a way that's better, and as well integrated to the world as those there are now (circles, welders, building gun) then I'm fine with it. But a friggin' bar slapping your face silly, no matter how it looks, is just worse than what we have.

Edit: Or as other say, toggle. I don't want it.

Old one was perfect. I don't understand why uwe keeps fixing stuff that are already perfect and not focus on the more important stuff, makes no sense to me.

Dang, I might get flak for this but I prefer it. :) It certainly lacks polish in it's current form I agree, but it enables me to focus fully on the entrances to a room while being able to tell roughly how far the building is to completion solely from my peripheral vision.

So aye, I'll throw my vote in for a toggle option too.

After playing some games and just knowing that its here to stay I atleast cast my vote on atleast making it toggleable cause the oldthing was way easier to read, had to explain today to 4 of my friends that started playing a while back that they were gonna keep the bar and they just asked why not keep it as it was as that was so easy to catch on and learn.

Good post sparriz, I specially agree with 3.; the build tool is the right way to do it, no need for anything else.

Btw, if you want to try a less cluttered UI : http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...t=0&start=0

This can be accomplished with the current builder tool, with a gradient on the screen along with the percentage. ?

@Yuuki. Nice. Mod. Seriously... thats what i've been looking for. Does that get rid of the progress bar and the red hives too? lol

@Egogamer: This is how i imagine it. Would be a good compromise for everyone:

I didn't find anything wrong with building before.. we were already given plenty of feedback on the welder and on the building it's self, the progress bar just seems a bit intrusive as you said.

How about instead of bringing the bar to the builder/welder, bring the circle ?

It is. When something is clearly unneeded it is better to remove it, than to make it optional.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about it like that, with the use of peripheral vision. I look around a lot to cover the entrances. Though having it on the tool, like suggested later in the thread, could be cool.

QUOTE (ceribik @ Aug 11 2012, 09:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The devs already said it was temporary.

I read something like that, but now I'm unsure what it meant.
I thought it meant that the current effect was temporary, but even though a more attractive one was coming it would still be a progress bar in the middle of the screen.
Did it mean instead that they removed the previous progress system because they're making bigger tweaks to it, and the new progress bar is just a placeholder between patches? (Like how they've removed Hive Sight to make bigger tweaks to it).

Personally, I preferred the way it was before. As a new player I understood it pretty much instantly. Though for some reason I (so this is a personal preference) always find myself looking at the centre of the screen when wanting information on what I'm constructing/destroying. This means I practically forget at times that there's a percentage on the build/welder tool, because I was just looking at the middle of the screen percentage/circle.

That's probably just self conditioning though, and a colour gradient could work well for peripheral vision. Especially since it's not too far at the edge of your vision, but just slightly off centre, because, from what I understand, the cones of your eyes are more in the centre of your vision, while the rods are more common at the edge. I don't know too much about it, but cones detect colour while rods detect shade, which I'm told is why it's sometimes harder to tell what colour something is at the very edge of your vision, but much easier to see in the dark there.

The current design is a placeholder at least, though I have noticed that it sometimes doesn't seem to fill completely even when the thing fully builds. I think this happens when you look away and back again? Not entirely sure.
