As long as I can turn it off in the options, I don't mind it. If you guys need inspiration on what kind of customization you should have in your options menu, take a look at blacklight retribution; they really did their homework.

That said, you're going to have to do work on the visuals if these icons are staying. Currently they look very unappealing and distracting.

To add a little balance to this post: I really like the basic marine HUD aesthetics, you guys did great work on that.

Eh, would be better as a small command station / hive icon on some part of your screen with an arrow pointing out of it to where that place on the map is.

Good and bad, just shows the amount of passion people have for NS2 :)

As long as we can turn off the new fangled UI for new players, I don't really mind.

New map view is great, colors are much easier on the eyes and is far less disorienting. FPS also seems improved.

The glowing icons for hive/CC do feel like an eyesore in an otherwise very aesthetically pleasing game. I can see the purpose to help guide new players to the action, and understand it. A toggle option would be fine, but imo if the graphic for them is toned down and perhaps is just an outline then I think they will be fine. Not sure why so many are so upset by them.

People are just complaining about some graphical changes that are very apparent. Balance looks better so far, but for real feedback a changelog and some more time is needed. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Also noticed that Leap takes a lot of energy now, well over 1/3 your bar each time.

If the only option for enemy structure health feedback is either a percentage text or a progress bar, I'd rather there were no feedback. There was none in NS1 (at least not for hives) and it didn't really suffer for it. NS2, on the other hand, is suffering from a lot of graphical feedback that is hurting the immersion (I really hate this word, but I feel it's appropriate given the circumstances).<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I actually like the Hive/CC health bar(the functionality, if not the look). It appears to everyone in the vicinity when the hive/CC takes damage, friend and foe alike, which is a good accessibility improvement I think.

I completely failed at the argument I was trying to make, so I just edited all of that out of my post. Ignore it -- edit out the quote even. I agree with what you said in the part I quoted above.

I'm really sad to see that they added armory armor healing back in. I had hoped they would have the balls to follow through with the change, which did improve gameplay significantly.

Really dislike the giant red hives and building progress bar as well. Heres hoping for a "disable player hints" option or something in the future =[

I think the hive HP bar is a good idea, but I do not want that giant ugly bar in the middle of my screen please =p

They really need to stop so much focus on the 'new' players. Let there be a bit of a learning curve and a bit of difficulty to the game, hell maybe then they'll gain some common sense and some type of brain function.

The "progress bar" is horrible, that is for sure. It looks so jarring, immersion breaking, and to top it off is completely redundant since the welder has a % indicator AND there is a progress circle around the object. The old way was intuitive and clean, the new one feels like I am being slapped in the face with unnecessary information that I already have access to. I suspect this feature won't last, because it makes the game look amateur.

That said, I really am digging the patch outside of that minor issue.

I worry that this will make new players rush hives, which is generally a bad idea. most of the games I have lost have been to new players placing too much weight on hives and 0 weight on resource nodes.

If you want to put player hints in, they should be directing new players to resource nodes, because games are won and lost on resource flow, not hives. Teaching players to cap and defend friendly nodes, and take down enemy nodes is going to be the best way for them to learn the game, learn the maps, and help their team mates.

Read that aliens can only have one upgrade of each "chamber" - BIG PLUS+! No more cara regen by default!
Now just go back on the other big plus (no armor healing armory) and stick with this!

I'd much rather see a marine waypoint prominently through the map than seeing the hive.

You want the new players to follow orders, not cod-rush their way repeatedly into the hive, die, and then complain about imbalance.

Plus why was Armory repairing armor put back into the game? The last patch was a step in the right direction.

One key feature of natural selection was to explore the map and now you are showing where the CCs/hives are. I have no fun if I see the hives and CCs and I don't think that you should make it like that, now its only about rush the base.
  • ZekZek Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7962Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
I tried to test out armory healing last game but I never took damage lol, hit reg feels a whole lot better.

I like that you can't take Cara and Regen at the same time anymore, however, there's still a big flaw in the design of Regen as an out-of-combat heal - you can easily just find a place to hide and switch out an upgrade for Regen at any time.

The new red icon for command chairs and hives looks just awful and is downright annoying during gameplay. I understand that players need to have an idea of where to go, but that's why there is this neat thing called a MAP that's easily accessible with the push of a button. I wouldn't be opposed to updating the map to be able to show CCs and Hives but the red icon currently in is horrible and really should be removed.

Accessibility should be reducing the difficulty of learning for new players, but do NOT reduce the difficulty of what they have to learn. AKA, give players feedback on what they're doing wrong, but don't try to make it impossible for them to make mistakes.

The progress bars are also rather ugly imo, I understand why they are there, but there really should be an option to turn it off as they really do not fit the style of the game, the %bars fit very well and were still very useful.
