Ns Map Im Planning

hello, as you can see im new to the forums, but shud hopefully become a familiar face for years to come <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->.

i have had some experience in map development, i made a few tfc levels and such, now that ive emigrated to constant ns playing cus it simply r0x, ive decided to have a blast at making an NS map.

now i know that the current NS maps are all based on spaceships and that all fits the storyline, but i was thinking there cud be a TSA base on a planet somewhere and the aliens decide to try to take it out, this way i can make some outdoor areas, whilst keeping that dark and gloomy 'ns' feel to it all.

I need some help with unique ideas for the map to make it special. so if you have some spiffing ideas you care to share, plz either email me or reply here!

    Aah just another guy that wants outdoor areas,
    Just another one to tell that this neither fits to a logic (nannotech for bulding ...) nor matches to the gameplay because of flying units.
    the only way of "outdoor" are locked mines and glass domes.

    lol, the only other outdoor i dea I can think of is the ns_hera "pentogram" lol thats a unique idea!

    well i suppose you have point, but its easy enough to put an invisble wall and roof all the way around the edge of the map and then place the sky behind that.

    i think 'old mines' is going away from the feel of ns and the basic ns storyline of it being a space-based game, caves though, im thinking on of the hives could be in a giant cave thats kind of half inside and half outside. im also thinking the front of the base will be surrounded by rocks as if the whole place is built into huge rocks and caverns etc.

    Have you ever played Metroid Prime? There's this particular area, called ther Phazon Mines, which could probably make a good theme with NS. The mine was pretty lava based, but had machinery, labs, and other parts built in it. Some parts were completly artificial; many were a clever mix of metal supports, cave walls, and lab equipment. I think that would be interesting if placed in NS. Add a few high-power mining lasers in key locations (i.e. Hives), and you'd have a fairly interesting map.

    mine on an asteroid? still pretty spacy. you could make it a mined out asteroid with very little actual space left (although i don't know why they'd bother defending it then...)

    aye thats quite a good idea. they wud defend it cus its supposed to be a hidden base? but u cant really build anything on an asteroid cus they arent stationary, and have this tendancy to fly into things, but then again, its in the future so who says the TSA havent researched a method of stopping asteroids and holding them stationary? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> will certainly put that down as a possible idea. thanks

    as for this, havent seen it, but i get the idea, could use a mixture of caverns, mines and ns texture-based artificial rooms, like cud make rooms like normal ns rooms but could have a big rock formation in the top corner of one of the rooms. some good ideas guys keep em coming.

    looks a little to ancient and old, perhaps we cud do something like that, but it wud have to be metal futuristic mine struts as a pose to old wooden ones. anyone got anymore ideas. post here.

    ok yeah thats a pretty good idea, anyone got any ideas for some room layouts etc? bare in mind that this is going to be based on an asteroid now, as a kind of mine, thats kinda built into huge rocks.

    also im cancelling the outdoor area, and having it a huge glass dome, with the hive in it, but in the storyline the glass dome opens as inside the dome is a launchpad where ships take off from.
