I think it might be because the hive isn't properly 'attached' to the world; it still feels placed, not grown.

Infestation is great technology and looks excellent.. particularly for structures placed on the ground. But the hive is effectively placed on the ceiling.

I suggest have another infestation type that grows on the ceiling above and around the Hive radius only. Same technology, just flipped.
Visually you would change it slightly. Perhaps to look a bit more 'sinuey' or muscle like (more like zerg creep) and have a lot of fibers, stringie bits, goopies and other things hanging from the ceiling to fill out the negative space. Obviously, the hanging bits would be greater in size and density closer to the Hive.

You want to REALLY feel like you are in a sticky, uncomfortable organic place when you stand next to the Hive.

On a side note if anyone actually reads this.
Not at all important and I'm sure you may have already considered but can I suggest some simple IK rigged into the ceiling connectors of the hive so mappers can place point elements in the map to which these arms would link? This way the hives can be hung from more realistic structual points on the ceiling instead of the mapper having to guess where they might end up.

:)
