(I havn't played this build as of yet, so this may be completely irrelevant *shrug*)
So as someone who often plays a Gorge, I'm not sure the recent changes will be totally beneficial.
I spent a lot of games as the dedicated gorge, running around, spamming hydra's on walls and working closely with commanders to get ###### done, but I feel like now there's no incentive to go Gorge after I've spammed down my 5 hydra's (or whatever).
Not spending any of the money means I'll probably just gorge it up for the first 10 minutes, then rush an early Onos with all that money I didn't spend at all.
Personally, I would prefer paying for hydra's again and having the ability to have 1 person be the support, because it feels more like it's become "the alien version of the welder" that people will only jump over to heal up buildings, then abandon it when it's not needed.
Yay for the walls though, but honestly not sure it's enough to keep me playing a dedicated Gorge.

Since Hydra has been buffed in accuracy (yay hit-scan!), putting the 5 PRes cost on them would be like purchasing Mines; you get to place 3 Hydras max for 15 PRes, and they are semi-permanent until killed or you build elsewhere.
Free buildings usually lead to spam to max out the limit, so a cost would return the interesting options for the Gorge (do I put a Hydra or two down or save up so I can Lerk?)

Beyond the whole early-game spam, it's the late game I'm more worried about.
And with pricing, mayhaps get the ability to build a basic (slightly lower dmg) hydra for the original 3 res and upgrade it to a normal dmg one (with more hp / armour?) for another 2 res after the commander researches the ability?
Would help with early-game hydra's making marines cry foul, but help with end-game when they're getting shelled by lev 3 nade launchers and still give the dedicated gorge's something to in the end-game beyond being a heal bot.
Plus it would prevent res hoarding as well.
:EDIT: I was also tossing around this idea for a bit:
Give the maturation process to gorges, rather than the comm. That way we're still useful and have stuff to do throughout the entire game, beyond being a hydra-bot / heal-bot
Do you mean Nutrient Mist mature acceleration? I guess that could work.

I mean more as a secondary skill (or could be worked into the mist) that's free but costs energy and matures -all- buildings, instead of the commander doing it (ala the hive maturing etc).
Stuff would need a gorge to actually mature it by "feeding" it I guess. Or you could just nerf the maturation rate on everything and just have gorge's give a speed up similar to buildings growing.
Would make them a must have. That might be a bit OP, though. Was just a small idea I was kicking around.
This is a serious issue, I hope UWE takes note.
Clogs should be free to place
Not sure about the cysts... I like that as long they are free, gorges can have some importance early on saving the alien come some precious team res. Might be still true with 1-2 PRES, but then gorges will rather spend that on hydra.
Currently a real problem is that hydras are free, everyone can just go gorge, spam 3 (or more of them) for free, so you get super strong early game defense which can ONLY be countered by arcs or grenades. Just gunning them down is absolutly useless as you can just drop a new one.
Once gorges have to spend pres again, they can't also sit at 100 pres the entire game if they are dedicated to playing gorges.
Kinda OP :P
I still think my idea of getting weaker hydra's for 3 and stronger ones after a comm buys an upgrade, then you spend 2 to upgrade them is a solid idea which will actually make people stay gorge and help out, rather than just evolve to a Fade or Onos the second they have the money like what's happening now.

This is the same problem that I saw. Clogs were spammed all over the map and closed off a lot of routes. Gorges were building them up and putting hydras in front which was making it nearly impossible for Marines to push through.
With clogs, you just have to put them in spots to keep the arcs just out of range of the hive so they (and marines) are forced to shoot them before moving on and by that time, the aliens are there to take it all out.
No-one plays the gorge to help build, or heal people up anymore.
And if you're like me and you ENJOYED playing a support gorge, you end up with 100 res and your team is raging at you for not going onos / etc.
Bring back ye olde gorge please ;_;
Was far more enjoyable being able to use my res to contribute in a way beyond "become onos, stomp marine"

How many hydra kills did you get under the old system?
Not sure exactly, never really kept count, plus they weren't the most reliable, but I cared alot more for them than I do now. If I lose some hydra's now, no big, I'll just throw some more down.
Line moved up? Throw more down.
They've stopped being a part of your class that you build to help your team at your own cost and just become disposable things to plop down early game until you can evolve something better late game.

I agree with the alien welder analogy.
I would like to pay for hydras again too.
You can un-do 207 now...
Guys?
Ok, I give up.
