HL2/NS2
I was curious and i am sorry if this has been answered i am not a forum regular... but do you need HL2 in order to play NS2?
Thanks! i will be sure to spread the word and one more thing how are the beta servers very active? i am seriously thinking of buying the pre-order to join the beta and later in the future the real game... i will be bringing about 15-20 people along with me but wanted to get some info first
no you don't need hl 2... ns 2 is a standalone game and engine (spark) you can pre-order it on http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy

They are both real and significant, since the game and engine have yet to be optimized.
I'm not saying this to discourage you from pre-ordering, but your decision should be an informed one.
Thanks for the head up XD and i am pretty positive i can run this game unless it is something out of this world LOL i can run any game currently out on max graphics while recording with almost no FPS loss

I'm not joking about these performance requirements. Servers have to be overclocked to over 4.5 GHz in order to handle 8v8 matches without falling below 10fps. If you've never run an engine that was being built from scratch using a runtime-interpreted language, you really have no point of reference for this.
Don't rush into this and find yourself full of regrets later; the game is too good for anyone's experience to be spoiled like that, in my opinion.
As for the performance, don't expect it to be any good. You'll need a good cpu (any recent intel, 3ghz+ ) to run it with accepable framerate. Super highend cpu to run it with an acceptable all the time, in big matches you'll still experience dips.
There are a lot of active servers, I think there are at least 2 servers full at ANY time of the day, at top times you might see like 8 full servers.

I play on a 2.4 ghz processor because I'm an NS junky. I can barely aim most of the time and frequently have hanging lag issues. I still love the crap out of this game. your mileage may vary.
Welcome to the NS2 community, Audi. We hope you decide to jump into the Beta and have fun playing the game and seeing it as it evolves with each patch we put out.

I run ns2 on my first generation i7 with 2.66ghz and never had any serious performance issues. But i have to agree that performance relies heavily on a fast cpu rather than gpu
I'd very much recommend pre-ordering it, that is if you don't mind dealing with the performance being unoptimised. Myself and others are having a blast, despite this and other (no doubt temporary) issues. It's a beta after all.
Welcome to NS2 where anything goes.... like getting eaten by a skulk or getting mined to death when u enter marine start. GLHF and always remember that the NS2 community is filled with weird people, but oh yet so friendly.
