Random blue screening and freezing

riotriot Join Date: 2003-11-24 Member: 23498Members
I just built a new system and the game will sometimes cause blue screens with rebooting as I am waiting for it to open. The game also occasionally tends to freeze for several seconds in game, and sometimes when I open it, and windows will make a note of this as display drivers failing and recovering (this doesn't happen in other games). I have the latest video drivers for my card. Is anyone else having similar issues? Insight and thoughts are appreciated.

asrock p67 extreme4 gen3 intel mobo
intel i5 2500k
windows 7 64-bit home
radeon hd 6870 1gb 256-bit
g-skill ripjaws 4gbx2 ddr3 sdram
180gb sata3 corsair ssd

Long shot: Since you just built it I would make sure the video card is seated properly.

Is your processor overclocked? Is there a number you see when it BSODs? If its a "124" BSOD then go here:

    <a href="http://www.overclock.net/t/1120291/solving-fixing-bsod-124-on-sandybridge-read-op-first" target="_blank">http://www.overclock.net/t/1120291/solving...e-read-op-first</a>

I had issues with 12.3. I would suggest installing 12.1 on top of 12.3 (yes, I said install on top of 12.3)

This sounds like an unstable OC. Ironically, NS2 is a better OC stress test than a 12-hour double prime95 test, in my experience.

    Agreed.

Thanks a lot for the input guys. The gpu is seated properly and it is not OC to my knowledge. I found the BC codes 116 and 117 in the problem report log- any forum or well known fixes? I will take your advice and try the 12.1 drivers on top of the 12.3.

Update after installing 12.1 drivers: ns2 will not run now at all and windows restarts (same BC codes 116 and 117)

Here are some things that might help you track down the issue:

"116 and 117 error codes are video timeout recovery"

    Hope you can fix it.

Thanks again. Spent way too much time on trying solutions with no progress. I'm returning the card and getting a gigabyte 6850.
