What is the lag/fps like currently and how smooth does the game play because I am thinking about buying Ns2. I am a very old NS1 player, but I don't wanna buy it before the game is fully done and optimized than be disappointed. How much fps do you guys get and what kind of computer build do you run?

My computer specs

Amd 1055t Six core processor overclocked to 3.6, H80 liquid cooling
Radeon HIS 6950 2gb GPU
8 Gigs ddr3
Coolmaster Full tower Case
M4a87TD Evo asus motherboard
750w PSU

    It is honestly a gamble.

Some people have amazing supermachines and get stuttering and lag and hitching, and some people are playing on their uncle's commodore 64 and getting fluid gameplay.

Thorodon, your PC will do NS2. I have a similar spec PC, and aside from the "regular" hitching and FPS drops, I play fine. I drop my "quality" setting to medium and it relieves a lot of hitching! I figure when NS2 is ship worthy I will run at "High" again.

.. and Smug_Lobster, a tear fell from my eye when I saw Mordecai.. uh, enjoying the internet.

This is probably the best description yet, also stop insulting my C2D and the stable FPS I get :P

Hmm, is comparing to the oldschool and awesome Commodore 64 actually an instult though... I think not...

If you can run Skyrim and Battlefield 3 on High or Ultra, you will probably be able to run NS2 in its current form with enough frames per second to make it worth the purchase. The frames per second are unaaceptably low for a final product, and I hope they have a magic switch to AT LEAST double performance in this regard. But I am having fun with it even with low FPS.

It also depends on your preferences. To some people 30+ fps is perfectly playable while others feel everything below 60 is bad.

I run Skyrim and Witcher 2 and other games like those on highest settings with no issues, but running NS2 at poor quality and very low resolution I still get terrible lag. It's not the "I'm standing in an empty room" fps that is the issue, it's the "I am looking at another player/structure and pressing buttons" fps that is really lacking.

I run an i7 2600k default OC'd to ~4.4GHz, 570, ssd, 8gb ram. I typically sit at 40+ FPS until the servers start lagging, which is pretty much any game with >14 players or >20 minutes long.

Performance needs a drastic increase for this game to be playable by the masses. The best servers barely run NS2. The best computers barely run NS2. Nothing runs NS2 well enough to be called competitive.

Try limiting your servers to 7v7 max. Honestly, none of the servers can support >12 or 14 players without lagging everyone to hell and back.

It is the mouse-lag you get at low FPS, that is really killing the experience (Can't. Hit. The. ######. Lerk).

This is so strange because i have this performance now (40-50 fps without action and early game) on my AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2 OCed to 3.6 GHZ (will try to overclock him to 3.8 GHZ only for NS2 on weekend but this needs much time) 4 GB RAM and ATI Radeon 4890 HD.
The biggest change in performance was with beta200 for me when the diashow on close combat got better.

But actually i can every one with AMD Phenom CPU recommend again to overclock their CPU.Even with the standard boxed cooler you can overclock the most Phenoms by 400 MHZ which gives you around 5-8 fps ingame.

Overall the game is playable for me now but not in a state where i can enjoy it 100 %.....

I meant 40 in combat up until midgame or so. Usually 15+ minutes into the game, the servers start to bog down. When servers start choking and tick rates drop below 15, the fps lag gets really bad.

Out of combat just chilling in base in the early game I'm probably sitting 60-90.

I get around 40 in the RR and at the start of the game (Which is acceptable, I don't need 60 to have a fluent game experience), then it gradually worsens over time for me as well, with big drops when a lot of structures or players are present. Though even early game I sometimes get annoying framedrops.

I know they're doing everything they can to sort this though, so I'm not really worried. I would probably play even more if it wasn't for the performance however.
