Good to see more people jumping into mapping. I don't know the editor well enough to give any specific tips, but I've always like this as a quick and information description of the general mapping process: http://youtu.be/pj8cbC2YnwU

I don't think you can make a NS2 map in 11 days, but following the general steps is a great way to pace yourself so you don't get bogged down in any one place and lose interest.

Don't forget to add a basketball court.

Look for the dev textures and use those for now, or find a plain metallic texture and stick to it. Do up your whole map in boxes and divide it into rooms. Improve each room individually, gradually adding more geometry and models. Test your map out often, walk around it.. it's important to experiment with the tools.

Overall just have fun with it and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Hi, yeah it's gonna take alot more than 11 days. I have some more ideas for maps aswell (a school and more). So I'm gonna sit here busy for the coming months.

Still figuring the textures out. For now the showerroom looks more like my school's. That is probably gonna change soon.

Just out of curiosity, why are you doing a gym themed map?
• Soul_RiderSoul_Rider Mod Bean Join Date: 2004-06-19 Member: 29388Members, Constellation, Squad Five Blue
lol, why not? It may not fit the theme of NS2, but that is kind of the point of community maps. They offer a great deal of variety, in both asthetics and gameplay, for a wide range of people :)

Also he plans to make a school too, showing that he's using his environmental knowledge in creating his first maps. This is a good way to learn the basics before attempting to create something like a spaceship, of which is ultimately complete imagination.

BTW, DO NOT make your school, or any other school you know, as it falls under national security laws, terrorism and all that :)

Basicly I was just testing my mapping skills out. And I has always wanted to make something "alien"-wise in a swimmin pool.

Ofc not,
It's just a random school with sports hall, classrooms and dinner rooms and more.

If you need a place to host your files, I can recommend our Map/Mod database.
All you need to do, is sign up on our homepage, and wait for me to change your membergroup.
When that is done, you will be able to go to "Admin" in the topleft, "Downloads", and then the "Maps" button to add a map.
Most of the community mappers already use it, and I hope more will help us keep their maps and mods updated, so the community have an alternative to browsing the forums for map/mod files.
Link in my signature.

I didn't mean the question to seem derogatory in any way, I was just honestly curious, though to be fair I found attempting to copying certain rooms from half life or various other single player games was what taught me the most, though each to their own.
Since this is your first map good luck, one thing that can be said about the Natural-Selection modding community is how friendly and helpful we generally are.

Well guy(s),
The school map is gonna be "future":ised with space-style. And have several "houses" which have diffrent styles. So no real school is gonna be used.

But stick to ns2_gym.
