I know it's off-topic, but I didn't like SS2. I bought it because it looked like it was going to be a great game, and at first I quite enjoyed it. It had a great dark, creepy atmosphere There were just too many frustrating little annoyances in it that eventually ruined it for me. For example, the weapons training stuff - I was completely unable to pick up, point and shoot a shotgun because I didn't the necessary experience to use one, yet all these zombies were wandering around with shotguns and were also crack shots with them. As I say, I liked it a lot to begin with, but eventually gave up in disgust and frustration.

Should I give it another try sometime?

You are a lost child to the wonderful world of Thief. Undisputably the BEST pc game I played ever. Scary scary scary and very enrapturing. I played it at night with proper gamma settings on my quad speaker setup. Had to use your ears to LISTEN for the enemies. Ah, Return to the Haunted Cathedral. Scary scary stuff. That game was a lone bright star (at least after heavy gamma adjustment) on a sky polluted with shine back from the drivel down below at town level that so many pc games are.

yes, concentrate on few weapon groups, do not raise your skills all across the board. shotguns are not that good. pistol+melee weap+assault rifle later on will get your through the most of the game. alien weapons suck, except for the shard. emp sucks, nade launcher is good. do not forget about hacking or psi - those can really help in some levels.

SS/SS2 are not fps, they are rpg with first person view. think of it as fallout from 1st person perspective.

Immacolata - ahh good to see a fellow taffer

Stuff that! Nothing BUT Psi m8 = Teh SS2 Jedi Lord.

And incidentally, SS2 owes EVERYTHING to Ultima Underworld II (not I, which sucked)

(Incidentally, Yeah yeah, Doom, yeah yeah, Wolf3d, yeah yeah, Dungeon Master, yeah yeah, I had a BBC Micro too, yeah yeah, if you can't remember those apart from school, you can never claim the 1337ness you claim to have... etc etc repeat ad nauseum)

And no, Speccy wasn't as good. So

Thief and System Shock 2 were the best. I can't believe Lookingglass went out of business. =(

Anyways, if you loved SS2, you might like some of these fanworks:

I know it's been mentioned dozens of times before, but I didn't see it in this thread:
the good ol' hive speech easter eggs. Look in C:\Half-Life\ns\sound\hud for the files:
alien_mess.wav
alien_myhive.wav
alien_needbetter.wav
alien_now.wav
alien_seedead.wav

Funny stuff.
Now, we donce!

There's a soft spot in the wall in ns_caged. I forgot the name of the room, but if you go to the Generator hive and go down the long hallway, it's in the room at the end of the hallway. You climb up a ladder, then jump over a railing. You can walk into the part of the wall of the right side of the room.
