walk key for marines
We need a walk key for marines so we can be silent, move and hear aliens at the expense of movement speed. Right now marines are jogging around and sprinting. Where's the walking?

I myself have wondered the same thing, why do marines sprint instead of walk? Are they trying to discourage the average joe from developing bunny hopping skill by giving us an easy fast way to move around?
Yes crouching can make you silent but that interrupts the line of sight you have on certain things. I would love to see walk make a come back!

Compared to waking, crouching has the unwanted side effect of having to crouch.
personally, i consider double tap annoying and not very intuitive. on the other hand, it adds additional complexity (in a negative way) to add new keys...

I wouldn't generally call it an unwanted side effect considering it makes you harder to see as well as hear.
I understand what crouching is, you don't need to explain the effects of it. The OP said,

I was simply pointing out that crouching currently satisfies all of the desires he expressed in the OP. Crouching lets you be silent, move, and hear aliens at the expense of movement speed. As such we really don't need a walk key that badly. The option to bind one would of course be nice, but it's hardly something vital that is missing.
Could divide the shift key up into two attributes, press shift, and hold shift. Let use specify which they want to use for walk/run. I would prefer pressing shift once for toggling run, rather than double tapping, and holding shift for walking is fine by me as well.
I hated the ARMA style of double tapping to run or walk, it was just awkward for me. A simple walk button will do, or a make crouch toggleable or something.
As much as I hate caps lock as a toggle for walking (since people start talking in all caps accidentally), its better than double tab for sprinting. +1

This example would just be what'd I'd personally use, but as I said it should be rebindable like the rest of the controls.

Great idea. You only sprint in one direction why take up a big key like shift for sprinting.
I'd love to see walking return to the game, for aesthetic and gameplay reasons. Marines duckwalking through corridors is a bit silly.
I don't like adding multiple functions to single inputs, keyboards have a lot of buttons people.
I often find myself crouching through corridors just so I can hear skulks.

f**king awesome idea but may cause a "accidental" sprint during combat, dont make me explain how but it can happen
