Something like this: http://techabsorbed.com/Reviews/Geek-Toys/...on-Tracker.html Research and buy at Observatory.
+1, sounds more fun & atmospheric than staring at the (mini-)map all the time. but i belive they have already considered this: i remember charlie mentioning that the alien-movies were a primary source of inspiration, this obviously includes alien 2 where sentryguns and welding are introduced.

You'd be surprised how many people still don't know this.. I was in a server once where there were a lot of decent players and all we needed to do was take the last marine stronghold over. Someone voice chatted: "I don't even know where the marines base is.. can anyone point me in the right direction?" I team_say: "hold c" voice chat guy: "Ahh that works, thank you" 30 seconds later the game is over lol...
NO! At least not like the last implementation where someone randomly shoots you after playing sneaky spider for 10 minutes, hanging upside down in a dark corner waiting for a marine to pass.
the point of a motion detector is that it only detects you if you are moving. i think it should not respond to sneaking either (or at most at a much closer range). what i like about the idea is that a sound would warn you rather than a red icon on the minimap. on top, it could have a limited frequency, also not showing the direction the alien is facing. the later things only make sense if the map is "nerfed" though. overall i think it is difficult to find a satisfying solution to implement this feature without some drastic changes to the map-view.
one game where they implemented this nicely is Alien Swarm which is free to play on steam. that game is also heavily inspired by the 2nd alien movie, yet not as good as ns2 imo :)
I seem to remember that the NS1 motion detector didn't detect you if 'walking' (e.g. holding shift) since you were moving too slowly. Was this actually the case or did I just imagine it?

I wouldn't be upset if 'motion tracking' was brought back.
