That is a coincidence as Spark is not related to Source in any way :P
Could you post a screenshot from your main menu? I just want to make sure you've got the latest version of the game (it will show you only your version).
When I had the Problem i had the Version 179.... Did everything you told in the Connection Tutorials and know my PC very well so it was pretty weird. After Downloading HL2 every Server was there :)
So your firewall probably had the ports blocked that are needed for NS2 and automatically unblocked them with the installation of HL2. (NS2 uses the same ports.)
I think that's the same behaviour as in all Steam server lists. The master server will block your IP for a short time if you spam serverlist requests. Probably it would work again without restarting NS2 if you wait like 30 seconds or a minute before refreshing again. Maybe NS2 needs a "quick refresh" that only requests status updates from the servers in the list, not requesting a new list.

After using steam webbrowser, the servers was visible.
What i did?
1. Start the game b189, servers = no single server...
2. go back to menu
3. wait 10 seconds
4. go back to serverlist and voilá all servers are visible now.
Maybe the game has to connect to some server or something.
try just to wait some time in main menu, that helps or just surf with steam some seconds.
It helps ^^
The bug is also very rare, maybe the playtime is necessary, more player = the longer the server need to answer?
I've been having this bug a lot since last build. Maybe you should add some verbose to the server list, so we can see what is going on.

Hey Gwex
maybe i can help you. It seems like the same Problem i had. My simple solution: Join -> click into the input field next to "Game" -> delete everything, maybe there is a space... no gamename starts with a space ;)
i hope it was the problem.

If it helps for Bughunting:
- I restarted my Router while I was on a server
- connection lost, disconnect
- refreshed server list, no servers
- alt-tab to check if connection was there: it was
- another try to refresh
- restarted steam: still no servers
- verified cache in steam: "1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired", but it didn't download anything
- got into the game, waited some seconds as suggested
- still no servers for me
EDIT: Ha, here they are again after another steam restart.
However, the game seems to have a problem with the server list (even if restarting router while playing is never a good idea :D)
As there is no option to filter/search for servers in the normal server listing built into Steam, outside the Spark Engine, so this is a completely game ruining problem.
Is it just Steam's servers causing this? Is there a server listing located somewhere online? I'll copy and paste IPs all day I don't mind but this is just awful :(
EDIT: I saw the retweeted post about it likely being Steam so huge bummer.
