Using the Invinciglobe on Marines

Why do Marines get to use the invinciglobe too? Shouldn't it be structures only?

As i recall the point of the nano-shield was to give marines the edge when making big pushes against alien hives, as it has always been a daunting task to attack a hunkered down alien hive. It may even have been meant to be marines only, and the ability to use it on structures was an after-thought, although maybe one of the playtesters could enlighten me on the true intentions of nano-shield.

Isn't the answer to an alien hive a ARC or more likely, a spam of grenades, even with the whip.

On a side note, about hives, what the hell happened to the hydra, I was playing 185 a while back and took a break, now it seems like a hydra can't even stand up to a single rifle marine with a gorge healing it (my last one went down from 100 to 66 to 33 to 0 in seconds while I was heal spraying it from one rifle marine.)

Reminds me as if it should be one of those dota 'reinforce' spells. Where all the structures would be fortified for a few seconds. Would tie in nicely with distress beacon.

Although for some server we were spawning with the nano-shield every single time. Like spawn protection.

That could actually be a good game play element. Research-able (globally or per IP?) spawn with nano shield for ~3 seconds or so.

Aliens can pop out of any egg, so they at least have a surprise element to their spawn. Marines are given away by the IP warming up. This makes it easy for even one skulk to camp multiple IPs. Spawning with nano shield could at least help marines prevent being owned by one skulk. Against multiple aliens, spawning with nano shield Shouldn't be a big factor as long as the spawn nano shield doesn't have a long life or high damage absorption.

As far as artistically adding it to the game, its simple. Have the spinney arms on the IP flash when a marine spawns and give each marine a short lasting nano shield. Sort of like how every HALO game had to charge up the Chief's armor at the beginning of the game.

That is because many servers run Schimmels balance and hotfixes. And one of the is giving the hydras a more correct hitbox, so that you don't have to shoot the base, a tentacle now is enough for a hit. Since this hydras are down to fast and to expensive in realation to the HP.

Yea, hydras are actually a really expensive proposition for what they do. They shoot one 20 hit projectile once per second. 20 dps. A single hydra will take 14 seconds to kill a marine. The only thing that actually makes them worthwhile is that you can place them to cover a corridor without allowing a rifle or pistol to damage them from a distance.

Giving them an accurate hitbox turns them into useless and hideously expensive wall ornaments.

Do note that if two (non-"fixed") hydras cover a corridor, you can just run up to them and kill at least one of them. That trades zero personal res and a respawn for 10 personal res for the gorge. If you get a medpack or two from the commander, you will kill both of them for 2-4 personal commander res vs 20 gorge personal res.

Or you could just run right past them and ignore them.

Hydras share their usefulness with offensive chambers in NS1. That is, not much.

    That picture is awesome.

The graphics for the nano-shield are a little wack.

Is the effect just for testing because i think it would look a lot better if instead of a sphere it was a tight shell around the model.

Just keep in mind the effect has to be obvious enough that you don't get aliens attacking shielded targets without realizing it.
