Adding a female model wont attract more females to play this game. CoD and BF both have no female models and I know many ladies who play those games. If the game is good then the ladies will come regardless of the models. But I wouldn't expect any casual female gamers playing NS2 like they would in CoD or BF... this game is a little... different.

On the contrary, I know a lot of guys who would buy the game if there was a female model. Funny world.

I don't believe the US military allows women to fight in close combat as in the settings of those games. So it wouldn't make sense for them to include female models.

Well my point was more that females who play shooter games play for the fun fast paced action, not for the emersion of being a female in-game. If you are trying to sell this game to your GF by showing her a female model she might be intrigured at first but I doubt it will be enough to keep her interested. My GF was more interested in the gorge then anything... but that still wasnt enough to make her sit down and play.

Of course you can't sell games based solely on the gender of characters. But at the same time, including a female character is a nod from the developers signaling the fact that they want people of both genders to play their games. This is especially important with the "alien/scifi/shooter" genre because it is easy to assume the game was designed to target hyperactive 13 year-old boys only, in which case people outside that demographic might not bother with it at all.

The fact that it isn't a 100% twitch game and there is some layer of strategy should appeal to people outside the young male "shooter" demographic, so including a female character might actually be a smart, cheap way to signal that UW is looking for a broader range of players.

perfect example of what I was talking about. if you were like, "hey girl I'm trying to sell this game to, you should buy this game about shooting guns and blowing things up because the character is a hot sexbomb with big breaststs" ... I don't know that you would be successful with that sale.

It's nice to see that they're including both genders in the game for Marines, but I doubt that it, like Dank said, would keep majority of the females who buy this game interested. As a female gamer I'm a bit neutral on the whole aspect - either you got a female model or you don't, but that shouldn't keep any from playing the game. It's more or less getting them to sit down and play NS2 rather than painting their nails 'Tutti Frutti Tonga' and posting gossip on facebook all night.

I think the 'better view' aspect of the model will still hold strong for the guys though.

but you can sell games based on a playerbase sometimes..
my wife, who occasionally games, watches me play ns2 enough as it is, (While she watches TV to the side) and the other day she heard a female voice come through on the speakers and was very excited about it and the important question she asked was: "Are they being nice to her?" they were. but it was a very valid question considering the past experiences shes had with online gaming...
