Well my brother's Birthday is October 15th, lets see if EA comes through with a nice gift for him.
Any other good deals out there?

Only reason I probably wont ever play this game is because of EA's BS with Origins. They say that they can't put it on Steam because of Valve but really its because EA doesn't want BF3 to be on Steam Cloud Sync.

It's because they want to market more directly (i.e. ads) to the user than Valve will let them. Both sides are tight-lipped about what EA's exact demands are, but when you consider that Steam has plenty of ads already, it has to be something above and beyond that.

You know using noscript and adblock I actually forget that the internet has ads on it. I don't get any, not even on video sites.

I installed Ghostery in google chrome but I feel kind of guilty. Ads don't usually bother me unless they're pop-ups, and ads are how these sites pay the bills, so I'm basically starving the sites that give me free content that I enjoy...

I do use Adblock and allow ads on sites I like. Some of them even politely asks you to unblock them and whatnot, and I respect that. But after surfing the web for over 15 years, I've seen way more of my share of pop ups, pop unders, flashing banners, junk java script and all that jazz, with ads always trying to circumvent your protection and trick you into clicking an ad hidden somewhere, so I just don't have any patience for it anymore. A few months back I was interested in using Diskeeper so I went ahead and googled their website and read a little about it. Then, for 3 days straight, over 90% of the ads I would get from Google (on Youtube, Adwords, etc.) would be about this very product - sometimes even twice in the same Adwords field. This annoyed me so much I ended up not even trying the product.

I still have this unspoken pact with websites: They don't make their ads TOO annoying and I don't block them. If it generates revenue for them and results in free websites for me, I'm okay with that.

Hmm, I actually am blind when it comes to ads... I block the annoying ones of course, but when it comes to adds like the ones on YouTube or sites that need them for payments and such, I just don't see them at all even though they are indeed there :P

The popularity of adblock and noscript isn't because we hate websites and want to steal free content, it's because they did it to themselves by being greedy and accepting more money for more intrusive, irritating ads. Too bad they learned their lesson too late. Some still haven't learned their lessons - certain sites you go to (a rare few, thankfully), will block you completely and demand you disable your adblock plugin - funny enough, the adblock creators protest against this and recode the plugin to get around it.

I'll tolerate non-Flash, non-animated, non-annoying banner ads. I will not tolerate the opposite of those, and more specifically 25-30 second advertisements before video clips or mandatory click-throughs.

I'm just saying: there's a difference between a billboard telling me to accept Christ and a guy harassing me on my doorstep waving papers in my face. If blocking the retards from coming to my front door also stops the billboards, it's not skin off my back. Websites that have lost money because of it shouldn't blame the users or adblock, but the retards they're buying ads from.

The internet basically made its own advertising "bubble" and it exploded all over. I actually sort of enjoy the power of being able to 'steal' all content on the internet. All I have to do is think about how many people in the early 00's chased the cash machine of advertising and implemented pop-ups, pop-unders, cascading ads, intrusive cookies, and suddenly I don't really care. The banks that were responsible for the economic busts basically did the same thing, got too greedy, and were run by people too stupid to consider the consequences, but unfortunately they got away completely scot-free and I can't do anything. In this regard, I *can* do something, and I reject it all entirely.

So shove your ads straight up your ass along with CometCursor, internet collective.

I unblock ads that might interest me.

Like I unblocked projectwonderful because they advertise webcomics and the like, which I like to read, and some of the ads are pretty inventive.

Otherwise no, stuff em. I don't want adverts all over everything adding to my load times.

big discount on the upcoming Assassin's Creed, too:

I just pre-ordered both, because I am weak. This is a good move by Amazon to compete with Steam. They've been releasing games with big pre-order discounts a lot lately. Steam sales are awesome but the big discounts on Steam usually aren't for many months after a game's release. Of course in this case, it helps that neither game is available on Steam anyway.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please continue shopping on the Amazon.com home page.

I would very much like to murder Mr Amazon.

now that it's out, I am just as sad and unimpressed as I was during the beta. I was hoping this would be like the glory days of BF2, but it's just a clusterfudge of horrible UI, clunky controls, annoying browser interface, inability to create an empty server to mess around in and practice solo, inability to even configure your (limited) options without being in the middle of a live game, etc. I can't squeeze an ounce of fun out of the thing, while I played BF2 for hundreds of hours. What is with this new paradigm in fps games where you can't even have the basic tools of your class without presenting your ass to be raped by burly men for hours on end in order to earn them?

But at least it's pretty, right?

RE: the minimap comparison, I actually liked 2142s better than BF2s. The monochrome made units stand out much better.

Also he gives props to BF2 having grid lines and reference yet neither are in the minimap example :D

Also cons specifically lists "no grid lines."

I haven't really spent much time playing any online FPS since 2006, so I am actually enjoying the game.
