Temporary Officialization of Community Maps

We have a lot of custom maps coming out, and a lot really need some love. Why not test out some of them and cull out the bad ones and leave the good ones as official?

We might leave the "make it official" step for last and start arranging organized games of community-made maps; someone well-known in the community sets a server, time, and map and away we go.

Or someone could just make a map pack for the time being. While I do see a lot of custom maps in progress, the number of ones you can download is still pretty slim right now.

I like the idea of a map pack, we could probably even make a simple installer for the average-joe. Thing is, how many maps are at a point worth including?

Since none (AFAIK) have had a ton of play testing or feedback I suggest any decent looking (by "looking" i don't mean just visuals of course, consider map design, layout, ect.) map be be included in a community map pack. Then simply see which maps play well and gain popularity. This should provided an OK metric for which maps may become official.

As for who decides what constitutes a decent map.... dunno. Probably should leave it to fellow map makers and experienced players. Some type of community map pack committee?

Once map downloads and map rotation gets in, UWE could track stuff like how many times a custom map has been played. Then they can decide if the more popular ones are worth making official.
