Am i the only worried about the COD crowd?

Sorry if this has been posted before...

Looking at the Nuclear Dawn videos it looks like a ######ised version of NS1 and C&C renegade and quite boring....with all the reviews comparing it to battlefield or COD...

am I not the only one who played NS because almost all the battlefield or COD games were complete crap?

I loved the strategy and teamplay of NS, which was HARD as opposed to getting banned from COD servers for "hacking" the first time I played it for beating the admin too many times.

Am i the only one worried about this crowd getting into NS2?

Actually I got Nuclear Dawn a few days ago, and it's pretty fun. A lot different than those games and NS1/2, yea they lied about it being first but not really a reason to bash the whole game for it. I liked CoD 1 and the first CoD that added the levels to multiplayer, after that it's just rinse and repeat though I agree. I doubt NS2 will attract the CoD crowd, most wont even hear about it and those that do play will most likely be like me and looking for something different and actually teamplay oriented.

I have 2 extra copies of Nuclear dawn if anyone wants to throw down for them. I'll let them go for $20 a piece, cheaper than the single order price.

Its a good game to hold you over until ns2 gets further along. I think ns2 will blow nuclear dawn out of the water when it is complete.

Dang should have said that a few days ago lol, but yes NS2 will have much more depth so it's a good holdover game until launch.

Me too! I had a purchasing issue with the 4 pack. When I bought the pack it didnt assign the extra copies to my account until yesterday. Had to fill out a STEAM dispute and all the other bs involved with getting what I paid for from STEAM.

not worry in the slighest, why would anyone anyway?
its not like they would even come here, most players will just keep buying the same game in a new skin over and over again.

    And those that do come?
Well, either they adapt or they leave, its as easy as that, you cant play ns2 like CoD, if you do, you will get an assbeating like you never seen before, lonely marine running of? NOMNOMNOM.
So, CoD players will either change their ways to fit NS2, as a gamer should, or just leave because they keep getting dominated, (most) people just work that way, they quit if they cant win.

So either we get new players who also happen to play/used to play CoD, or we get players who we will see 2-3 times, give us easy kills and who we will then never see again.

As for Nuclear Dawn, whats with all the hate?
If the game isnt for you theres still no need to break it down, the RTS isnt as deep as NS2 but they are both completely different games, NS2 and Nuclear Dawn play as 2 completely different games.

The media compares it to CoD, why?
Because if your going to make comparisons for a wide audience u compare it to things a lot of people know.
That and most reviewers the last few years are complete rubbish, oh, that game has perks, its like CoD, oh it has classes, its like CoD, oh it has GUNS, its like CoD.
I myself dislike that, because it will scare a lot of "oldschool gamers" that dislike CoD's ways away but they are right in 1 way, the FPS part of ND does play fast paced like CoD.
But that is as far as it goes with them being similar.

But back to ND for a sec, the devs are planning to release at least 2 free DLC, things that will add a lot to the game that had to be left out for the release, things like a deeper tech tree and trucks that actually deliver the buildings, as a build time so to say instead of insta building.
They are also planning on adding new game modes and if i remember correctly even controllable vehicles, they have 2 coders and are for the most part rewriting big parts of the source engine.
After that, if the game sells well enough they want to at least release another 2 DLC.

So just calling the game bad while not knowing anything about the devs plans ticks me off a bit.

..and besides, the majority of the CoD-Crowd don't have a gaming-PC anyway ;-)

And if they have then they have either the patience to familiarize themself with the game and thus are appropriate
..or just leave after pressing two buttons and realising that the game is not like the most games in 2010/2011

NS players aren't some elite breed nor are you required to have a refined video game palate to like the game. I played CoD, it was fun. I played Battlefield, it was fun too. I plan on playing the new battlefield, it looks like a blast. If CoD players come play on NS2, what's the problem, the game can't survive with 30 players on 2-3 severs, this is a money making venture and it simply offers a different game play than some other games. This kind of post isn't even really about "worry" it's about arrogance, like playing NS2 somehow makes a person better than if you play MWF.

If the OP doesn't like CoD and BF, that's his business, but I get the distinct impression this is more of the dreadfully common "I hate stuff that's popular because that makes me counter-cultural and therefore unique even though that attitude is a dime-a-dozen." MWF/BF are just other games that happen to be popular, that doesn't make them bad. If people are going to complain about games they might as well have a reason for it rather than "its popular so I hate it."

As for Nuclear Dawn, it's perfectly possible they didn't even realize NS was around, it's not exactly a huge name in the gaming world so I can see them not realizing a game with the same concept was around. In any case, there's room in the world for two games with similar gimmicks, why jump down someones throat at something that was probably an oversight, not an intentional snub.

Nuclear Dawn started development before HL2 was around. It then changed to HL2 on release and has taken 11 years to be released, so it was a game created around the time of the original NS. So azimaith it's perfectly possible they never knew about it back then.

I agree. This thread reeks of elitism. To label a crowd of people a certain way because they play a certain game is ridiculous. NS2 is no better or worse than COD or battlefield. It is like trying to argue poetry is better than hip-hop. They're just different artistic mediums to express human existence; one isn't better than the other. One might work better in certain social contexts but it isn't inherently better because of this.

I would be happy to welcome any COD players who come to NS2. They have legitimate ideas, experience, and input for the game. The developers aren't making a game for any one of us specifically so if they feel COD did something well and want to use it in some form or another in NS2 great for them; no need to hop on the soap box and start in on some diatribe which will just boil down to a socially created and unsound elitist distinction between the two.

All that does is scare away potential customers UWE rightfully deserves to attract.

Having played CoD, NS and multiple other games at a very high level, I'm not worried so much about any of the top players at all, the more casual and spoon-fed players, yes im scared of to a certain extent, money talks and if a playerbase of a game is generally single minded on their views, they tend to get what they want.

It took them 3 years and rising to make one, and that's about 2 years after the announced release date.

Besides, be less bitter about the sucsess of a computer game which still isn't hitting above it's debt line for Activison. Activision need to create a new CoD every year otherwise they'll never achieve becoming profitable and Blizzard will wish they never bothered helping out. And yes even with their massive profit intake, they're not that well off, if off at all these days.

Activision bought out Blizzard, not the other way around, Blizzard wwere getting them selves so far into debt with the creation of WoW (original), they had no choice but to 'sell out'. (oh how I bet these wish they didnt!).

Activision makes a loss, the only part of that company that makes money is Blizzard (probably the best game developer ever). So you could say, Activision saved Blizzard, and now Blizzard saves Activition.
