edited September 2011 in NS2 General Discussion
Been playing fine untill just now,

Decided to log in and the screen has masses of vertical flicker (like watching a CRT monitor via a recorded feed).

This happens in full screen mode only, I can run windowed and its fine.

1650*1080
Win 7, Latest SP
GTX 470Sli on 280.26
Same fault on all resolutions up to 5040*1080, same in SLI, Surround or Single Screen,

Anyone else come across this ?

*On the 5th load, it now works fine, bug report stands though

**On alt-tabbing back in to update this post, the flicker is back

***Guessing is some sort if refresh rate glitch. trying to track it down

It has something to do with using Matrox Power Desk to split the 5040*1050 screen in to 3 individual screens (so you can maxamise a window to only to one screen and not across all 3 screens - I use this in conjunction with nVidia Surround).

Update on this, it has nothing to do with Matrox Power Desk.

Will look into SLI / Driver issues next

Yeah, my initial reaction was that this seems like an SLI issue. See if the issue ever comes up when running on a single card.

If I alt-tab and leave NS2 loaded for a few mins while on desktop and go back it it later it will fix the issues.

Will try a driver swap and I am sure I have only had this on 280 WHQL, I will go rollback to 275.33 and report back

Rolled back to 275.33 and flicker still exists, so not a driver issue (had 275 before upd to 280 and never had this issue before),

Possibly something to do with down clocking in desktop, looking in to.

    Bug found,

Running dedicated Physx via my 3rd GPU and not on the processor causes masses of vertical flicker, I have not been able to reproduce the fault since I switched Physx redering to the CPU

Last time I checked (must've been almost a year ago) PhysX was forced through the CPU, regardless of what was specified in the nVidia-controlpanel.

Yeah Ns2 Physx only uses the cpu, no matter what gpu u have - some dev said that a while ago in a thread.

I have not heard about this, thou it might be true I doubt it, due to the difference in Vantage scores I get when I switch from CPU to GPU for Physx

Enable the PhysX-caption (will appear in the upper-corner of the screen) in the control-panel, you'll be able to see where the PhysX-computations are routed to. Of course things will go faster on the GPU, but UWE kept things on the PhysX-side pretty negligible to not put ATI-owners at a disadvantage. Vantage was purpose-built to go bat######-insane on the PhysX-end.
