Come one, come all!
As most of you may know, we held a PUG event last Saturday and allowed everyone to participate to get a feel for a more "structured" game-play environment then they would experience playing on a public servers. The games filled up quick and we had NS2HD participate in the first round, but, unfortunately his video somehow got corrupted and we never got to see it added to the YouTube channel.
We decided, that since the event was so successful, we will be holding it every Saturday at 6PM CST! The password for the server will be posted on our forums 4 hours prior to the start time and all are welcome! We are going to have someone on hand (Dusk or Myself) to LiveStream the events to either one of our streams for those who didn't make it into the initial 16 players! We figured this can provide a "LIVE" form of broadcasting instead of having to wait for video to be uploaded and edited.
This is a new system for NS2 and we are going to be trying out how we want to manage the teams and how the rounds should be played and look forward to feedback towards future dates. We tried 8v8 last week and we are going to try the standard 6v6 this weekend. We will be playing on our 4.7Ghz AnagramNS2.com | Chicago servers, so you can expect the same general type of performance.
We look forward to seeing some friendly faces and some new faces this week!

We're discussing other ways of choosing teams, so as to not make the last people picked feel bad. One idea is to just all go random and hope for the best. Post any suggestions you have.
The captains need to be people who have a general idea of who's skilled and who is less so. Anybody who is going to captain needs to know that they need to try to get a good mix of skill vs. less skilled on both teams instead of having a contest with the other captain to get all the skilled players on the same team first. Those mixed skill games are the most fun for everyone on the server and the key to making any weekly PUG night a success. Randoming the teams is too unreliable in this respect. The key is to have good captains that understand how to ensure a fun game for everybody.
I don't think many people would get offended by getting picked last (dodgeball flashbacks!) as thought. Many times its more because those players are of an unknown quantity, not necessarily because they're unskilled. Keep in mind that skilled team members don't always have to be the top tier guys that kill everything instantly, but guys who can communicate and coordinate their team well are also a useful asset.
The ultimate goal (at least in a public pug) is to ensure a fun and somewhat competitive game with mixed skill on each team, and having rounds that don't get sucked into the turret spam vortex from hell slog like many normal games end up. I'd MUCH rather have a back and forth game and lose with a team that's fun where everyone tried, than to have all the elite guys on my side stomping on the other side with no real resistance. Some of my best NS games were from a server full of regs and good mixed teams on captain's night. Win some, lose some but its a lot of fun regardless.
Stream is up. come watch!!!
Next week we will have an amazing stream for all!
Thanks again!

It was very refreshing to play my first organized NS2 game as a non commander. Sorry for not using push to talk with Fraps. The sound of the keyboard gets pretty annoying.
Join up everyone! It is going to be a lot of fun on the new map! Download the map here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43181294/ns2_descent_alpha02.zip
