A small impact damage maybe, but not an instant kill. Would make gorge rushes way to powerfull :p
Btw: Will marines get damaged by the impact if I leap on to them as a skulk?

Why not just replace belly slide with sprint?

(Personally I think a belly slide is ridiculous).

Belly slide needs slide control so we can have gorge surfing maps :)

Well if the belly slide isn’t ridiculous, why not implant a marine belly slide and an onos belly slide?

Because Onos and Marines would look ridiculous, if they are going to Belly Slide then why not make them sprint?

first off belly slide can't be taken away... It just C.A.N.N.O.T! Because its a belly slide. What would ns2 be without it? How sick would it be though if it could knock marines over and there was an animation for the marine geting back up?

Forced animations that lock your controls are the worst thing ever to come to video games. See the sandman stunball in TF2 which made enemies stand immobile for a split second on the shortest range and it was still enough to get killed almost instantly (before the patches).

While this is true, nothing says you are locked into the animation.
If I was knocked over/back by a Gorge(theoretically, in real life) I would be spraying that SOB full of lead while getting up, just so he can't turn around and knock me over again.

For a more convenient knock down, maybe just flip the camera upwards for 1/8th of a second and then back down, at the same time lower the camera height to "crawl" height and give a slowed version of the marine control back while he is getting up. He can still move and shoot, but are moving slower since he's basically crouching/trying to crouch. Sprint would be disabled for the "stand back up" animation but everything else would still be there, all though a bit slower.

Gorge bellyslide would need a cooldown for this to be feasible, since a group of Gorges could severely slow down a marine squad without the cooldown.

All in all, I like the idea of a gorge knockdown, as long as the marine counterpart doesn't feel he can't do anything while knocked down.
Taking away some features such as sprint I would be ok with, but the basics of an FPS such as movement and shooting would still have to be there(but as said above, at a slower pace for the movement).

A knockdown that immobilizes marines for a short time would be fun. Any Gorge performing bellyslide would become very vulnerable to damage.

I think this is smart. It makes an animation for it easier for sure. They key like you said is to make sure it doesn't totally wreck the marines to the point they'd be helpless to a gorge rush. It would be like you said, as the camera moves back he can do the same things but delayed. The vision could be a little blurry or something. Sort of like COD if you get flash-banged, your not completely done for but the other person has an advantage. Not saying it should be a grenade or anything just comparing it to that. lol

I don't think knocking over marines with a belly slide would be very fair to marines. In a custom map it would be fun to have gorge belly slide ricochet off walls, you could have some silly fun with that.

Belly slide seems to do what it's supposed to do well right now.
  • IronsoulIronsoul Join Date: 2011-03-12 Member: 86048Members
How about making marines legs stumble to the sides. So no full on knock down, but the marine that gets hit will go "oof" and move to the left or right of the gorge depending on what side of the gorge they were on to start with (even slight).

This could be useful for knocking a path through the marines, doesn't actually slow the marines down, and does nothing to prevent them from shooting.

Problem: I don't know how ns2's animation blending works, if it has separate top and lower body animations (like source engine, eg left 4 dead 2), so it might be difficult to only really affect the legs in terms of stumbling animation, maybe tilt the upper body a bit, but otherwise not affect aiming at all.

it's already easy enough to aliens to catch and or kill marines without an immobilization ability by a support class.
  • SkymanderXSkymanderX Green Marine - The Few, The Proud, The Green. Join Date: 2011-07-29 Member: 113006Members
The thing is its not going to completely immobilize the marine, just semi-"stun" them. Maybe to health or a gorge could be reduced a little to counter this if its such a big deal.

How about the gorge just spit out webs to semi-stun them?

(I still think belly slide should be replaced with sprint).

    Imagine a Gorge sprinting....

It doesn't look very fast does it? In fact it doesn't look much different than their current movement animation.. Gorge sprinting is a silly idea. Belly slide is cool because they slide into walls and get screwed and it teaches them not to get too cocky. If you're careful and don't hit any walls, you're rewarded with not losing your lifeform.

sprinting is probably not going to happen. and i doubt belly sliding would be removed. While shooting a stun thing is a creative idea, doesn't the gorge already shoot enough stuff? as previously said a belly slide will reward you with your life from remaining undead. Thats why this should be tagged on... to help the truly skilled. :p

It seems there is no sense in me trying to argue against the mob. Too many people love belly slide.

But I’ll leave you all with this one thought:
What do a gorge rush and a group of emperor penguins have in common?
