No yellow point-gain-showing HUD!

why all being call of duty?

I loved that HUD of NS1 which shows the resource that I gain by killing upon the dead enemy body. Especially for marines. Blue '+2.0 res.' maybe?

But now what? I hope if it's still placeholder, then I appreciate it a lot.. but anyway, why yellow +5 +1 kind of stuff again that I've already seen millions of times?

Anybody complaint also about this? How do you think?

I don't wanna see COD-like kill HUD anymore. It's abused.

It stands out more and gives instant confirmation of a kill (ties in with pacing if that makes sense).
I remember in NS1 where I'd barely even notice the res gained icon, let alone pay attention to it.

I actually think it gets in the way and distracts. Don't really care about score, though.

I don't really understand why there's talk of keeping the HUD somewhat minimalistic and then of all the things the score is presented so clearly.

Yeah I hate things that help and shows clear indication of kills!

If it's useful get rid of it!

I think it should be removed as it serves no real purpose and confuses newbies. Heck it confuses some of us old guard players too. If it showed res it would make sense. But generic "points" that aren't used anywhere else? No.

I bet it is recording these points per player somewhere on a hidden server behind a few boxes in a vent in the UWE office. These will later be use to be able to purchase ingame hats!

the way points are they're because you should be following them, listen to your commanders orders and you will win more games than you lose.

The points let me see who I killed without taking my eyes off the action (imagine multiple aliens on screen). Very important.

But if you guys must have it off, I don't see why it can't be a toggleable option.

just make it "toggle-able" because some people like it and some people hate it.

I personally think it is annoying. The little kill confirmation sound that you would get in NS1 is the right way to do it. The yellow COD style points thingie really doesn't fit in with the whole minimalism thing. And yes it can get in the way. And no it isn't useful; press tab if you are really butt-hurt about seeing your scores.
  • KalabalanaKalabalana Join Date: 2003-11-14 Member: 22859Members
It's useful as an alien type kill confirm. If you do not understand this, do not make assumptions about those that do.

As a noob, I found it really useful.

Yay, you did something that helped your team. Have a cookie!

I take a little bit of pride in having a high score, even when I don't have a very high kill count. It means I've been doing useful stuff.

i likeit cause it tells me if i got the kill or not its too much of a pain to look at the top right and see if you where actually the one that killed it

togleable definitely also there is alot of stuff on the hud that needs a toggle switch to turn off and on

Kill confirmations can be done a dozen ways. Sounds effects are nice, you could show RFK, you can make the crosshair change form or do something else completely different. The score just doesn't provide practically any information you could use in a hurry, except for the kill confirmation. As mentioned already, it's misleading and confusing if anything.

I think every newbie can tell they're doing the right thing by hurting the opponent too. It's not like people wouldn't realize shooting is good without some score popping on their screen.

I can be useful in a beta when hit registration and lag is bad, but otherwise it's useless and ugly, it should definitely be removed.

What if the message comes up in two colors?
Marine-blue for res gained by a kill. And their current color for score.
The text could be smaller, otherwise it is quite useful to have.

No, hence why I said it's confusing and should be removed or changed. It shows "points", not res. These points appear on the score board and do nothing else.

Why not change it to RFK and move points somewhere else... say maybe right next to where it shows your kill in the top right corner. So at least you can know what actions give what kind of points. Not sure where that would leave parasiting though

Well there is the small sound which played in NS1 when you killed something without the need to fill up your screen with yellow text. They do have this in NS2 atm but it plays it whenever anyone on your team gets a kill which is actually really confusing for someone who played NS1 for 8 years. I don't know if this is intentional or a bug cause getting the sound for every kill is how it would do it commander mode.

Oh guys, some of you still not getting what I wanna say. It's CALL OF DUTY! I hate the fact that most of new fps games follow kill-HUD of CALL OF DUTY. So do NS2 for this aspect. Yellow +5, +1 when killing... It's so abused i think.

Anyway those kind of messages are still necessary for some reasons, so i hope NEW one to see soon.

oh realy? i thought the yellow kill numbers was "+points (+rfk)" or just "+points" if you killed a structure. i agree theres no need to see +points for killing structures.

    FUUUUUUUUU

anyway, this simple needs an option for both teams (alien and marine) to be optionally on and off. If you like it on on marines, check the box, but if you don't uncheck the box... if you like it on on aliens, and off on marines... CHECK THE APPROPRIATE BOXES.

as for colour... just give players a colour picker...

Also, have it on by default, it's good for newbies to get grips to what is happening for things in the game.

If I had the option, I would likely play with it off, but at the same time, I don't mind it all that much.

COD may have helped popularized it, but it didn't invent it. They use it because it gives effective, immediate, and noticeable feedback to the player. That's good game design, why you see it in many games, and why it should stay in NS2 (though tweaks and/or making it toggleable would be nice).
