looks pretty much the same. But the game studio says, that this is just a placeholder. (just read the comments in the youtube video by Dragon-Guard) I guess it wasn't a placeholder until now, but after this controvercy they have to change it ;)
Really even if they say it was a placeholder they could just have used placeholders which are released to BE placeholders. Or the least they could have done was credit the people on which the placeholders were based. Secondly even if its a placeholder they are still using it for promotion material which makes it less justifiable imo
Well, looks like the guy who is in charge of the game has replied in my video comments:
We at Spiral Game Studios are an extremely honest and transparent developer. We often show segments of our game when they are very early - or at least much earlier compared to most developers. We do this for one big reason - to involve and interact with our fans. Of course preliminary builds and pre-alpha game builds will feature placeholder content but that is one of the draws when being so open and sharing with the audience and community. Yes, that is most definitely the Natural Selection 2 armory by design. But there was no theft. That was created by a former freelancer artist, Daniel Doerksen on his spare time based on the NS2 illustration. It was a self-exploratory project for him as he was inspired and intrigued by it for a portfolio piece. The piece in question is of course a placeholder and is only being used in pre-alpha builds until we finalize the design of our resupply stations. We have since edited the footage so that the main focus will remain on the game itself - rather than a single environmental prop.
Regardless, you don't put something in your game if its based on someone else's work, at least not without asking so first. So far it has 303 views 3 likes and 29 dislikes, i wonder if people dislike it for it being "theft" or if people are whiteknighting for orion

They are probably using free sounds in accordance with the GPL license. So public sounds which are free to use in games. You'll find NS had some sounds and textures from a GPL public library. Aswell as literally the entire back catalogue of Quake engines sounds, textures, models etc. being free to use in games.
Check out Gloom they used several textures and sounds that the original NS mod did too.
the only thing he changed was the screen top of the armory, pretty amazing ripoff. He even kept the color.
as I understand it, this runs on hl2 engine? other people did the artwork, with minor tweaks to it? sounds taken from other sources? the title of the game explains the silliness of this joker.
Just heads up to UWE if they read this that the armoury is still showing in the new gameplay video they uploaded. I dont care if it was for a split second, these guys infuriate me.

- What the hell is up with that hud display on the top saying 11:23. Its the same display that was on the top of their 'inspired' armoury.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Its game time remaining, and its just part of the hud, it just happened to align up with the armory in the screenshot, look at the vid, you can see it then
as said Daniel Doerksen created that based on the NS2 Concept <img src="http://www.interlopers.net/images/news/ArmoryConcept_800x532.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
and this is what is look like <img src="http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1778/wipspace.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
but he did that over a year ago, he even went ahead and called it Munitions Station on polycount forums <a href="http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68700" target="_blank">Polycount Forums</a>
but as said here why did they have to use that as a placeholder? for orion prelude
The Primal Carnage community completely knows about the rex clone. They also said some other things too, like one of our guys went over and gave them the model...but then changed their story to say they had it the entire time.
It's a real mess.
So the whole Armory steal thing does not surprise me.
They REALLY aren't getting very many brownie points from many people I don't think. Especially from the UWE and PC communities..i mean wtf Spiral Game Studios..wtf
Placeholders are fine.. but make your own thing instead. Like, instead of having the doors be JUST like the ones for NS2,make it a ring that closes around the player for a second and goes up and down them or something.. but geez this is getting to be way too much.
Me? I'm a moderator for Primal Carnage(Name is Spikeheila there) so I guess that makes me a kind of representative for them. I'm never really going to bash the crap out of O:P but dang man.. this is getting a bit infuriating how many times this kind of thing happens.
My top two games I'm looking foreward to and helping out,and they BOTH get stuff taken/used from the same guys :/
I wouldn't let them kinda Cop Out by saying it was inspired or even a placeholder.. make a different one, dont take shiz
But I guess it is "somewhat" allright because both franchises (NS and Aliens) have many similarities. .. and I always felt that an onos-like alien was missing in "Aliens" ;-)
If this is copyright infringemend or not.. I don't know.
I don't see how everyone is still calling this a placeholder... they CLEARLY only said that because it was the only thing to say that would let them off the hook. PR as usual. Placeholders are never that intricate and blatant, look at DI. It's supposed to provide the functionality without consuming time on appearances, for the time being. Even if it WAS a placeholder, that would mean that they do have some sort of armory in the game that acts similarly to the NS2 armory. And if they wanted a placeholder, why not just use the NS2 armory model and not waste your time on a whole new model?

Nah, I mean the Onos isn't the first creature in fiction to run around bashing things with its skull and such, I'd say it's a pretty logical choice of behavior when thinking about "what new type of alien can we add?" Hell they both ripped off of popular renditions of dinosaurs, so meh. The part where it bashes the door is eerily reminiscent of the NS2 trailer that promised everyone "Fall 2009" though, except he doesn't break through :P
