End of game

I always liked hunting down the losing team, sort of brings closure and satisfaction when winning a long game, so here's what I suggest:

Currently the mechanic is: when the last Hive or Command Station is killed, the team loses.

I would like to see this changed to the following (ns1-inspired) mechanic.

Aliens:
When aliens lose last hive, all connected cysts start dying (all together), all aliens show up on motion tracking and start taking damage per second.

This makes sure all alien structures and players will take damage and their locations are know to the marine.
So a lerk with regeneration can still put up a bit of resistance, but will die within 2 minutes of killing the last hive.

Marines:
When the last command station is killed, nothing changes for the marines, except they all show up on hivesight.
Since there are no more beacons, medpacks, turretspam,... Aliens should have an easy time wiping them out.

This also means that a squad of surviving marines can still kill the enemy hive and force a win for their team!

    I was never a fan of the pro-longed post-win draw-out.
Especially when one regenerating alien was hiding away in a vent somewhere, and the only way marines could get them is if they first researched JPs.
Meanwhile and rest of the dead alien team is just waiting for a new round to start and the marines are getting board with nothing to shoot at.

While I don't agree with the whole "hunt them down 'til the last man"-thing, I must say that the way it ends now feels rather random and very sudden. Something like a timer that starts running as soon as the losing team stops doing damage (ie. runs and hides) could be a better solution.

UWE said they wanted to avoid the "Ping of Death"

The point at which the game ends is kind of arbitrary. The way it is right now has it's roots in the RTS side of things, and I think that as far as victory and defeat conditions are concerned, it's probably best kept that way. A Lerk hiding in a vent may not pose a very long-lived problem, but it still detracts from ending the game.

Sadly, changing it so there is what is essentialla "ping" of death, is both a) against the design document of ns2, and b) probably going to be annoying a significant amount of end games.

Mind you, when the game is complete, and the devs are looking for some other bits to add in to jazz up the experience, I wouldn't mind this:

    alien win:

Infestation grows over everything, getting into the marines and killing them in gruesome ways.

    marine win:

Shut down turrets activate in all the rooms ceilings(only activatable by securing the facility) which shoot all aliens and all vents get gassed automatically.

It would add another 10 seconds to the end game, but make it "cooler".

i miss gorges hideouts, I've built many in my day. It was so fun though. I see no harm in something like this, just adds bit of fun. But with current changes or lack of, gorges cannot do what they once did. So gorges hideout will never work, much of the game completely changed.
