Weird lerk spore (fart) look from different point of view.

I don't know if it's bug or just glitch, but when you look at your own spore trail .. they looks nice and accurate.
But when you look at the same spores from point of view of different player 9i.e. marine) they are shown rotated in an 90' angle.

The image will explain it (top = lerk's view/ bottom = other player):

The top one looks "nice" like real trail of gas...
The bottom are really funny, because they looks like lerk's farts !

The screenshots are directly from NS2HD's video:

    Sure thing knock yourself out.

Place files in C:\--\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ folder.
Didn't include the backup files, so you might wanna do that yourself.
Also the original spores were pretty particle intense so I modified em slightly.

Lerk spore acts as both smoke screen as well as health damaging gas, making it more transparent is bypassing it's game mechanic. (cheating)

+1 to OP, I noticed the weird incongruous spore trails as well, this is prob an orientation issue, and hopefully will be fixed in the next patch.

jergodz's Spores do look better. :)

I feel that Spore trail could use some tweaks, by increase its range slightly (by 1), so Lerks can gas Marines a little easier, without having to bump into them. Alternatively, the radius of the cloud could increased slightly, so they're more difficult to dodge (by ducking down).

I like the real, gree lerk spores much more than this modded ones. The modded ones look like umbra.
And i would also consider them cheating, because they are much more transparent than the real ones.

That beeing said, of course the orientation should be fixed :)

Guys and gals, the game is in beta. Unless your AIM botting/Wall hacking; applying Mods is not cheating. It's more of a trial and error process, which is the point of beta! :)

I like the modified spore cloud posted in this thread because it's more of a continuous cloud instead of blocks of odd looking clouds. I do think the cloud should not be fully opaque and I do think the cloud should be green. I think the current spore cloud used in an unmodified version of NS2 is great in terms of density and transparency, however, the way it is rendered on the screen in "chunks" look very poor and leaves more to be desired on the visual end.

No. We deliberately made an effect that looked different from umbra, and chose the green color to emphasize the toxic nature of the spores. Also, the opacity of the effect is deliberate, as it is currently used as a smokescreen as well, which is pretty effective, since the spores don't do a lot of high damage right now. None of the FX are considered final, so the spores will most likely be tweaked later and improved, but it is the general look we want to go for.

There is an issue where the FX sometimes rotate incorrectly, as the OP pointed out, which sometimes results in the separated puffball look, as opposed to the constant smoke trail, and we are looking into that. I don't believe this new modded effect fixes that, it might just mask it a bit, because the overall effect is more transparent.

I never realized they were actually supposed to be rotated an additional 90 degrees and connect with one another, guess they would look fine if they did. Also it was never my intention to use this as a means of cheating, I just thought it looked better and gassier. Sorry for that..
  • ZycaRZycaR Join Date: 2002-11-12 Member: 8263Members
oh I was convinced, that new Fx is ball , which is indepedent on rotation ... instead of 'elipsis'
  • jergodzjergodz Join Date: 2011-05-20 Member: 99745Members
Yea they are so you cant see that they are rotated the wrong way, I was talking about UWE's poo puffs :)
  • FriekFriek Join Date: 2003-11-06 Member: 22343Members
When i see the lerk coming i usually hide between the puff of farts and dont get hit, it works quite well.

It would be nice if the cloud would slowly drop in elevation over time.
The cloud only affects marines if it's right at their eyes and sometimes that hard to do especially flying through crowded areas like the marine base where you run into stuff. So usually what happens is that my cloud trail is left too high and doesn't do anything but make a nice looking weather pattern.
