Help me assemble a playlist (suggest music)

<div class="IPBDescription">war/epic/tension building theme</div>I'm looking for tracks to add to a war-themed playlist, for games like Axis & Allies. In particular, I would like to find music that instills a sense of foreboding, building tension up to an inevitable climax (without being all action), or 'epic' music about war.

The music should stay in the background, so I'm focusing on instrumental works; I'll make exceptions if the lyrics aren't a focal point of the work (I love War Pigs, but it would probably clash too much with the other stuff I want to add)

Music from videogames is no problem as long as the quality is decent, bonus points if it is something nostalgic.

Here are a few pieces that fit what I'm looking for, to start this off:

<center><object width="450" height="356"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DSx_N18TWjs"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DSx_N18TWjs" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" height="356"></embed></object></center>

Other tracks include the Hunt for Red October theme (Basil Poledouris), Hellmarch from Command & Conquer: Red Alert, the Resident Evil theme (Marilyn Manson), and Prelude to War from Battlestar Galactica (Bear McCreary)

Heh that FF8 intro makes me want to play again.

Anyway check out some tracks by x-ray dog, which is a company that does music for movie and videogame trailers. They have like 40+ cd's out and i have the complete collection for my work.

    Wagner.

Don't just limit your self to Ride of the Valkyries (though that is the obvious start), there are a number of excellent pieces to work with there.

And if your prefer something a bit more metal there are plenty of metal versions of Ride of the Valkyries (other Wagner? Not as much).

You could consider checking out this <a href="http://www.sovmusic.ru/english/top20.php" target="_blank">archive of Soviet music</a>, that is the link to their top 20. There's a lot of March music in there, which would go well for Axis and Allies I imagine.

Mars, God of War - Gustav Holst (The Planets)

Science - System of a Down (Toxicity)
Needles - System of a Down (Toxicity)

Most Metallica, since the writer had a lot of things to get of his 'warchest'. Symphony & Metallica versions would work well if you're looking for instrumentals.

The ones I had good times playing wargames with were Orion, Blackened, One, Battery, Fuel, Hero of the Day.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, definitely some good stuff here I haven't heard before...

    another "epic" artist I'm using is E. S. Posthumus: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GusLypfx7OQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GusLypfx7OQ</a>, for example
