How about some pipes running against those walls? I know it sounds a bit cliche, but I think it would work out perfectly. Working with the story behind your map, I say it should definitely be handy for you.
I was being honest and i do believe it has a professional style and look to it, i'm just as guilty of deleting 70+ % of whatever i build in favor of something much better in terms of gameplay and look, a lot of really good ideas usually crop-up mid development which can be a bit of a pain in the ass considering it requires you to possibly rip out an entire area that you have spent hours on tweaking the lighting and testing. But i stand by my comment an I'm more than likely not alone in my opinion.
The same request also for this great looking map! .. perfect work
Is there a chance to get screen from top of this map (something like commander view) to see what parts are done, and what is just a draft. I would like to imagine how big will be the map, and how's the progress until now.
Hey I've been busy lately, but here is a sneak peek at the server hub resource room.
I hated the idea of the servers being in the wall or being in the middle blocking the center of the room, so I put them in the ceiling on pull down racks :)
Is also gave me an idea to build a cinematic of one malfunctioning during the transition. If you want to give it a go, let me know and I'll see what i can come up with. after all the idea was a spawn of your idea and ultimately belongs to you.

Awesome pictures! I really like your style, very clear and stylish at same time. Did you already decided what will be theme of your map or did I just missed something? Did you work with this map on fulltime or where you get all your ideas and time for mapping?

Honing down on this theme took some work, but once I made the curved walkway (1st page of thread) the rest of my map seemed outdated. So pretty much all the screenshots I've shown were already made, but had to be deleted completely. Though I didn't really mind deleting so much as I knew something good was going to come of it.
Also I work on this map whenever I have the time or ideas to do so, but coming up with ideas is a spontaneous process. Throughout my time working with the Spark editor I am always learning more so I push my standards each time I build something. It's really just working at one small area of the map until 90% satisfied then repeating the process.
Being a visual learner makes your a visual worker?

I really hope that map gets finished! Don't delete everything ;) in the end, even if not perfect it has to be finished one day, at least to playtest it, you can still redo areas afterwards if you don't like them visually. Not that you end with a beautiful but unplayable map.

A question about the servers mounted in the roof: How feasible is it to have them up there from a real engineers point of view? Do they have wall climbing tame skulks changing out hard drivers up there? :)
So far the map development is looking amazing! Keep it up!

Pretty feasible, you just need a step ladder to pull them down (a small 2 step one I mean). As for the benefits of having it this way, I don't know. I mean, it would make sense if there was like a wind tunnel in the ceiling to blow off heat more effectively (server rooms get very hot!) but just having them suspended there in indifferent atmosphere doesn't really make much sense.
the server racks could be on a sort of mechanized track all the engineer has to do is hit the botton on the console to have the tracks bring down the server rack(s)

I kind of like the idea of it being a manual pull down for some reason.
Here are some more screenshots of the Server Bay it's pretty much %90 done some tweaks here and there. I'm now moving onto the T junction near marine 2nd Tech point.
The server racks are automated, but the have handles underneath if one malfunctions. It's hard to see but there are vent gratings next to each server rack and and 2 larges fans underneath pushing the air up through

It's easy to tell that you've put some effort into this map. Loving the design and looking forward to playing it. Really digging the curvy architecture.

badass dude. badass
Was thinking about the name for a while and i came up with ns2_intrepid.
Name definition: Fearless; adventurous
It is also a name of an American Carrier which could refer that the space station is a military base that has been overrun by the aliens.
