The best use of voxels in games i played is Outcast http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/outcast/
and I think it was mixed I think they used polygons for characters and voxels for terrain.
Which was a pretty fun action/rpg-lite game. The dialog was all done with mo-cap so mouths moved heads moved and hands moved while talking. The music was awesome (moscow orchestra) and the game was roomy and outdoors.

You took one of their publicly released and totally staged and photoshopped screenshots (I've played the game, it didn't look that good) and put it next to a random in game shot of NS2 in a less then impressive area, with no FX and no bloom and nothing interesting going on. Sorry, not exactly a fair comparison.
And we still have plenty of graphical bells and whistles that are planned to go into the game, before release, don't worry.

Yeah it uses fully dynamic lighting as far as I know, which unreal doesn't have.
It also doesn't look like that ingame, the effects aren't that good.
Why all the uneducated guesses at how another engine is much better, unless you are actually a game developer with the design plans of UWE, how can someone possibly know?
I've always thought a game engine is more about application, as in you wouldn't use a FPS engine for a flight simulator game, and such. Natural Selection has both FPS and top view RTS gameplay, which might make it a little hard to use a general engine for this. My guess is some of the ideas UWE want to implement, was not possible using a licensed engine. Maybe it was just too expensive to license an engine considering their small team size.
But guess what, it's pointless to speculate about all this :P

edit: anyway the game uses the Asura Engine and it looks still good ingame: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...kRn-N9i98#t=41s but its a singleplayer game (primary) so no wonder it looks better in most scenes, because there is more details which would annoy player to get blocked. I don't say your engine does not look good, i like your engine. But you know the impression of the spark engine isn't good yet, for a lot of people, i always hear people complaining about lags, low fps and stuff. Yes, its a beta, i know, thats why i add that to the text, i didn't know you guys take that "comparing" sooooo serious. Good thinks need their time...and i like the look of the spark engine but the peformence is horrible. Sometimes it feels like the new patch, slows down the fps.

Funny thing is AvP still looks better there :P, but those shots are definitely photoshopped. The graphics were on par with HL1, not anywhere near that good(looks almost as good as Farcry there).
If you guys have played AVP on PC, you would realize its an average looking game at best with fairly low res textures, I wasn't very impressed with the game at all and I maxed it out at 1920 X 1200.
NS2 is a much better looking game and the engine is still being built with half the graphical effects missing.
They've been showing this same video for almost 10 years, never really went anywhere with it. It's a scam, it's bull######. What has changed this year compared to last year? They added a rock? Wow, looks like it has a lot of potential.
