This game as it stands is very CPU limited, I hope that they soon start star programming to use other cores as I am sure it would help alleviate performance issues for a wide variety of people.
As it stands however, my system runs NS2 with ease for the most part with the game on high playing at 1920 X 1200. I would seriously recommend people overclocking (or read up and learn to) their CPU's, it will provide a very large increase in your frame rate especially later in the game.

I run on a Intel dualcore at 3Ghz, 4 gb ram, and a gtx 260. And I never see any performance issues (from my end), I even run other games in the background sometimes, Like dow2.
The only thing that's annoying sometimes is the server tickrates.
