    Meh. Nothing interesting there. Also I'm pretty sure I played that crayon game as a free flash game at some point and it was pretty dull then.

    crayon physics was a real missed opportunity for that guy. As far as I know, he came up with the idea, and the proof of concept / tech demo got a lot of press / went viral because it was such a cool idea. Then it took him like 3 more years to actually put out a full version of the game to sell. In that time, all kinds of knock-offs started popping up as phone apps, etc. and it wasn't new and cool anymore.

    I already owned And yet it moves (which I didn't like), and I had just watched a speedrun of VVVVVVVV, which made it look interesting, but I wasn't quite sold. I like puzzle games and had an eye on cogs for a little while, so I basically bought it just for that. I had already played the flash version of crayon physics when it came out. It was interesting then, but people have done things so much more ambitious than that since then. However, the highlight of this pack is the dark horse.

    Hammer fight is a real treat, I was so pleasantly surprised by that game. Interesting and deep story, pretty good interface, different campaign choices, a really cool upgrade system. I've beaten the game once, spent a good 6 hours on it, and I barely feel like I've scratched the surface.

    I'm recommending this pack just for Hammer fight. I feel this humble bundle is stronger than the frozenbyte bundle pretty much souly because you're getting this game with it.

    I missed that hammerfight was one of the games, and that there is a demo of hammerfight now ( remember seeing it when it first came out and thought it looked fun, but not really worth it).

    with that and VVVVVVV in there, I'm fairly tempted by this one.

    There are some optional sections that get really difficult, but most of the game is fairly reasonable.

    There is a <a href="http://www.kongregate.com/games/TerryCavanagh/vvvvvv-demo" target="_blank">demo</a> on Kongregate if you want to try it out first.

    It has some fairly difficult sections, but respawning is literally instant and places you on the same screen as the one you died on, meaning that the time lost to any death is at most four or five seconds. It's not comparable to games like Super Meat Boy that knock you back to the beginning of a potentially lengthy sequence.

    Just gave it a try. Pretty neat, but I seem to be having a different control experience than the video demo portrays. I've got a mousepad that's roughly the same size as the front of cereal box and I'm consistently running out of pad dozens of times per level. Which is especially odd since there was a calibration period when the game started. I think I'd do much better with a gamepad.

    Ah yes, this is very true. The controls definitely are intuitive, but they can also be very labor intensive, especially with the heavier weapons. I recommend ramping the in game mouse sensitivity as high as possible. I had the same experience, and I ended up playing on a mouse sensitivity way higher than I would ever use for any other game, but I thought it was pretty worth it in the end.

    Kouji: they have used steam for ever humble bundle, this one included.

    So I got it and played the hammer game. I took the hard path after the tutorial. Damnit it's hard. I die at least ten times on every mission, eventually getting through it on luck. I adjust my sens up to flippin' crazyballs high and it helps, but not enough.

    On topic: Just finished Hammerfight yesterday (same day I started) and god damn it was much more fun than I imagined. The tutorial was like "ugh gimmicky swing spam luck battles" and then I was like "CRUSHING BLOW 6x SMILIES, DO IT AGAIN IN SLOWMO BONUS THINGY, RAMMING THE ENVIRONMENT TO RAIN DOWN CHUNKS ON ENEMIES, THROWING ACID AND BOMBS AND SWORDS AND MY ONLY GOD DAMN WEAPON IN THEIR FACES WHILE FENDING OFF TINY ROBOTS WITH MACHINEGUNS HELL YES" The sound of breaking stuff and the destruction is just so satisfying in every way possible.
    I pretty much went full rebel all the way through and I guess I deserved the ending I got, gotta try the hard/other paths nao.

    When will we get MP ?

    So I've reached the first plateau on the learning curve and it's a METRIC BUTTTONNE of fun. When you couple a gun to your swingy scimitar thing you can pull of some pretty awesome stuff.

    The first few levels are a brutal, trial-by-fire tutorial. It just drowns you until you learn how to swim. After the combat system clicks it becomes this ballet of knives, maces, ichor and gunpowder smoke. The translation is a bit rough in parts, I think the between-mission narration is describing a different storyline, or something. I've got a tenuous hold on the plot, but it's more of shockingly detailed background to the rest of the game. There's a surprising amount of depth to the weapons and their use. Some of the bladed weapons are one-sided, so you've gotta flip the blade around such that the correct side strikes your opponent in that direction of swing. Light, bladed weapons aren't much good against armoured opponents in the classical sense, but you can stab through chinks in their armour if you're clever.

    The bundle is worth it for Hammerfight alone.

    Wow I think I've found a superior combination against any enemy in hammerfight, playing at Arena level 28 atm.

    I got the blade which hangs on a chain along with a heavy and very sharp sword, both fitted with healing sockets. I primarily concentrate on the bladechain swinging (and getting critical hits) and the sword just perfectly circles around me while doing so, cutting any targets that come too close for my bladechain. It doesn't do impressive amounts of damage at first sight but the bladechain is rather easy to strike crits with (just hit with the edge compared to swords and hammers that require careful timing in the momentum) thus getting slowmo and massive speed upgrade, which in turn just deals more damage. The healing just keeps me going and I can also fall back on the extra life flask if ###### would really hit the fan. I also noticed the only way to get more gems to use in sockets is to finish one "Hunt" mode which you unlock by choosing the difficult path early on.

    I dislike how enemies can explode and take 50% of your HP with them if they are just lying on the ground and begging to be struck, even if you do it with long range weapons. I don't want the title "Svenpa the merciful" dammit.

    I *want* to like hammerfight but taking 10 attempts to beat each level is such annoying tedium. It's somewhat satisfying to finally beat a level, but the catharsis is dulled by the fact that I get back to banging my head against the wall 2 seconds later in the next level. It also doesn't help that I feel like there's a lot of luck involved. One time, on an early level where you're defending some worm blimp from a boss monster, the boss literally 1 shotted the thing I was supposed to protect, before the level start logo even went away. good times -_-

    I know <b>exactly</b> what you mean. At first I thought it was an angry-birds-esque try-fail-try-fail-try-fail-try-fail-try-fail-try-win pattern, but that was before I saw the hidden wheels turning under the system. When it clicks it's miraculous.

    That's not to say there's not a modicum of luck involved in winning, but the apparent randomness goes away once you understand the system a bit better.

    I felt this way for a while, but playing through the game a second time (to see the other story options) there was like 3 missions in the first 15 I had to try a second time. The "hard" mission it gives you at start I easily coasted through. I beat both sophits in 1 try.

    My first playthrough I didn't do any hunt or arena missions, so I couldn't get some of the better weapons, which made it harder. But honestly, none of the weapons are godly in comparison to all the others, and I can crush virtually everything with the basic metal hammer without even having a gun attached. I like the speary sword thing for creep kill missions, and hammers for smashing machines.

    It's the kind of thing, when the skill side of things clicks, the game goes from frustrating to awesome very quickly. Until that happens, you get glimpses of awesome, but you just kind of have to trust it to get better at some point.

    There's also just mastering weapons too, I'm not great with small swords, I'm okish with flails, but with polearms or hammers I rip opponents apart like they're a joke. I'm most comfortable with those weapons, so I use those kinds of setups, but you could get really good with all kinds of different things, it's just what you choose to practice primarily.

    Basically, it's not as luck based as it is skill based, it just seems that way until your skill solidifies.

    [edit] That isn't to say the game couldn't do with alot more polish. There's so many other directions this game could have gone with economy, gems and that kind of stuff, and it's very short when you're good at it, and kind of frustrating before you're good at it. So in that regard, it's more a really promising first glance than it is a fully featured and fleshed out game. Still, very solid for an indie title, and very fun, which is what counts the most.

I can get a couple good hits in, but then it ruins me against the rock. It also has guns. It's part XIII-II. Wat do?</span>

Dodge alot (especially when he's firing guns at you) and make your first hit count.

    If all else fails, buy a throwable explosive and throw it at him early in the battle. If a throwable explosive hits, it almost immediately ends a battle, and stuns pretty much every enemy in the game.

    The next several levels are tough too, but that particular one I think is the hardest of the lot. </span>

It does the instant kill crap basically at random, I've swooped into the map area a few times and then found my self instantly crushed at the walls before it even appeared. The only "tactic" I found working was to minimize its chance of deploying said instant kill thingy. Fly straight up with the heavies set of weapons you can get and try to smash it as hard as possible as soon as possible. Swiftspear explained it well, just stun it asap and then proceed to smash without any regard for your own health. The shooting guns shouldn't be a problem so don't waste time dodging them.</span>
