Current NS2 system requirements?

Hello all.

Wanted to ask a quick question about the current playable specs that my PC should meet. I preordered the game quite a while ago knowing there's pretty much no chance of it running on my ancient GeForce 8600GTS.
But now, after the beta is out for some time and its getting tastier with every new build (thx NS2HD for teasing) I wanted to upgrade my rig to handle the game.

My current specs are Core2duo CPU running at 3 Ghz and a mentioned above GeForce 8600GTS. Was thinking about upgrading the GFX to Radeon 5770 or 5830 (or 6790). Can I hope for decent framerates with high details and 1920x1200 resolution?

I understand the game is in beta stage with most of the dev work currently in features/bugs and not optimisation - just wanted to know whats the current suggested specs for the game.

Thanks, IronHalik.

Ehm how about starting the game and look at the fps?

Your speccs look playable to me.
If it doesnt run well enough for your liking, a gfx upgrade alone wouldnt give you a big leap... i got a 2,4ghz quad + gtx 275 high with shadows bloom etc @1080p, its playable ok. (mid, to late game is a problem with big fights and lots of structures(sentry spam) can go down to 22-25fps)

For high details your gfx card should have 512mb or more ram.

You could try to get a q9550 from ebay and oc it to 3,8-4ghz, as addition to a gfx card upgrade.

I'm not asking how it runs on my GeForce - I indeed can see that it wont get past ~5 fps in ready room ;>

I'm asking whether Radeon 5770 is enough, in the community experience, to play the game comfortably. Or should I aim a bit higher.

I'm not sure how CPU intensive NS2 is but I would imagine that, if Crysis wont scale with my CPU (with my fried 8800GTX) past 2.66 Ghz, then NS2 shouldn't choke it too. So, I assume that GFX upgrade is the way to go. Unless I'm wrong.

After looking at some benchmarks of your gfx card.... i realized my crappy laptops gfx card is even better than this.

3ghz core2duo should be ok indeed (game cant really use more than 2cores yet, and i only got 2,4ghz as already said), gfx card upgrade is the way to go.

5770 got more power than my gtx 275 - should be fine.

PS: i had a 8800 ultra(which died a year ago), and didnt know there is such a leap between the 8600 and the 8800 ultra - thats why i talked so much crap.

an upgrade from 8600gts will have some performance impact. You wont see much change in performance after a 5770 at the moment though (deducting this from the fact that NS2HD doesnt see a difference with his 450gts and 5870). Preferably get a cheap used one

The game is heavily cpu bound at the moment. It was playable for me with my old overclocked 3.2ghz E6750 dual core, so you should be good for now on your 3.0.

    More ;)

I tried many times and keep getting VPU resets on a HD4850 512Mb, when trying the High graphics settings. But hey I'm stubborn, every new build I try it anyway :P

    [edit]
Mind you the Medium setting works fine...

    Ok, can cross 5770 512mb off... ;>

My gtx275 got 512mb, and no problems on high... :O - strange.

UWE should go over there sys requirements again real quick. Put windows 7 up there, refine the scope a bit, etc. I seen some people on different forums asking if it will work because it doesn't say windows 7? (Lol not computer savvy)

Alright, well then it's perhaps not just a memory issue, but perhaps GPU speed as well, in combination with the CPU speeds?

Someone should teach them windows 7 = vista for the most part, its not like ms is rewriting the entire os every 3 years lol.

IMHO - your GeForce is a mobile one - mobile screens usually have lower resolutions - lower resolutions eat less amount of vRAM. Or something entirely else :>

    Read again :)

My desktop got a gtx275 (there is no mobile 275)
q6600 2.4ghz high with shadows and bloom enabled @1080p (1920*1080) need to run a fraps benchmark - but it is playable ok. (framedrops that make me rage sadly occure still)

My Laptop got a 4650m. (a little bit better than your 8600gts, runs ns2 at around 17fps)

Well, I got baited again and tried NS2 - with it running in full screen mode in 720 res and awful graphics mode ;> it was almost playable - maybe not exactly with skulk but certainly with a marine and a flamethrower :>

Previously I tried it with windowed mode and must have got some performance hit from aero or sth.

EDIT: BTW - those low graphics settings give quite an interesting old school SCI-FI feeling to it. :>

Latest patch has made it playable with bare minimum requirements for enjoyability which is another step forward. Mid and late game kills it off bigtime though when buildings and stuff become more numerous.
