Battlefield 1942

I may get it, I need opinions...
Well, Christmas time is coming, and my mom is pressuring me to give her a gift idea I am unusually short on ideas this year, but I heard battlefield 1942 was pretty good. First of all, is it pay-to-play? I will not play it if it is. Please give good reviews, I need guidance.

- Need a Very top notch system to play it
-Has bugs... not a disgustingly alot...but not few
-Historically Incorrect.
-IS good if you are bored and need a new game
-needs some balancing
i would go for some dod rather than BF 1942
on a lan game it is fn great (get like 5 people and play one side have the bots out number you like 5 to one on the other side, now THERE is a chalange)
as a side note for those of you who play with bots:
does any one else FN HATE Udo? (either kotch or mayer)?
for some reason he seems to be the most retarted boyt if he is on your team or fn amazing if he is on the other side, lool
I haven't played it in a long while, but when I stopped, it was kinda buggy and took forever to join a server (cd checks and whatnot)
DON'T buy it for the single player though - it's awful.
I heard the number of lamers is incredible.
And what multiplayer game doesn't have any?
To quote PA, "The worst thing about multiplayer games is that you have to play them with other people."
It's awesome multiplayer, but can lag a lot due to the extremely high number of players on a server. You may have to bear with some low resolutions and detail levels.
BTW, check my 1337-as-heck sig!
Aparently you don't get the idea of BG
I don't know what this *bleep* is about a 'mmpofps'
it is an FPS just like any other exept that the scale of the game is friggin huge
each 'map' is a battle from WWII (yah yah it aint realistic so fn what?)
the normal mode (not deam DM) consists of 2 teams (axis vs alies) batteling over points on the map
each team has a number of credits that get depleated when ppl get killed and some other stuff I think
each area that you can cap is a spawn point (so when you cap you can respawn at the front lines)
each map has diff set up (teams have diff # credits, diff # spawmns etc)
another variable is that if a certain # of spawns is held by one side the other side starts to loose credits
Also if you loose all you spawns and no one is alive GG (just like NS)
umm, there are diff classes (sniper/scout, assault, enginere, and medic), each time you die you can switch class, you also cohse were you spawn
umm, there are tanks, jeeps, artilery, planes, subs(only in DM and they blow), boats, APCs, and friggat type ships, every thing can be pioleted, and many have more then one spot for a person (so you can have a tail gunner and cool stuff like that)
as for the style I described:
we get the ppl in on the lan who want to play and we all go one side (allied or axis) and set it so that the other team will hideously out number us, its great, we have the advantage of not being stupid bots and the fact that we have the best voice com system (we are in the same room), they however JUST NEVER SEEM TO DIE!!!!!!! ;D
yah, 1942 kicks **obscenity** on LANs I don't know about OL ;D (we only have it instaled in the CS lab ;D)
While some annoying bugs are present (flying off ships while it's moving and you're going up the ladders) it's still a fun game overall.
Lamers are present, and on a FF server at least one person will have a -40 score... it's almost a gaurntee, but otherwise it's no worse than rushing for the airplanes, blowing people off battleships with grenades, and running a jeep into the water with a passenger in it.
