What is an alieny look? Please post a picture that defines what aliens look like. Because I've yet to see one.

I'll agree that it justifies is the mouth-camera, but it doesn't necessarily make sense.

How doesn't it make sense? fps the point is your looking through the eyes of the character. I get the mouth camera's purpose, but there eyes aren't in their mouth... and skulks look kinda like diseased dogs istead of legit aliens, and im not saying to do it cause it would make them look more alien, but its a bonus. Or at least they can say they have eyes in their mouth as well as their visible eyes...

Skulks explore the world using their mouth?

Search has not been used in this thread either...

Long ago, for NS1, I had a similar issue with the aliens being too "animal-looking". That and the fact that, as the OP mentions, you're looking from inside their mouths.
So I made a few concept sketches of more "streamlined" aliens, the concept being that the kharaa bacteria only copied "functions" from existing lifeforms to produce lifeforms with attributes specific to whatever purpose, but stripping away anything unneeded, which is why the Onos for example has only one huge leg with which it brutally pushes its "barrel body" forward. Or the Skulk which is mostly just a mouth with 3 legs ('coz, why 4?).
Also, they don't have eyes 'coz I imagined that hivesight was more of a sorta "telepathic" kinda thing.

Let's see if I can link to those sketches:

    <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=18864" target="_blank">Skulk</a>

The only thing it "makes sense" of is the fact that your camera is in your mouth while your eyes are on your head. But it makes "less sense of" (confuses) everything else.
Because under what evolutionary justification would aliens evolve eyes in their mouths?

Also, what is a legit alien? The question is, from where are you deriving your idea of what an alien should look like? Because there is arguably no one source that defines what an alien should look like, because aliens do not exists. They are the result of our imagination, so really nothing "looks like an alien".

I think the OP is too overzealous in his complaint, which may lead to confusion and/or misinterpretation.

As KuBaN sorta said, it's true that saying "legit alien" is ridiculous since the word "alien" by it's very definition refers to anything "unimagined", "never seen before", "something different from all that is known".

But that's beyond the fact that the point of view of the aliens is from inside the mouth and so why even give them eyes?
I think what the OP mostly meant to express was a similar gripe as I had back in NS1: The fact that these aliens look like "zombie mascots". Almost cute even. Like a zombie plague infected a zoo or something. They (the lifeforms, specificly), just don't feel menacing, or scary, or creepy. At all.
Then again, I don't think they were meant to. I think it's the devs' idea that they're just another species simply fighting to survive.

So whatever. It is as it is, and it's fine. Whatever.

Conservative estimates put 1 lifeform per Galaxy. But if we find remnants of past life on Mars or life on Europa or Titan this will all change =D

The aliens where never meant to look too menacing or disturbing, the developers intentionally designed them to seem like dangerous animals pitted against a struggle for survival, not evil invaders. As both aliens and marines aren't evil, they are just two species fighting for their lives.

this allows players to not feel like if they are taking on the role of specifically the antagonists, as both species (Humans and Kharaa) are just naturally exploitative and justifiably they both fight for ground and resources and see each-other as a threat.

Well actually, most ideas of aliens are taken from our own mind. The things that make up our memories and stuff is what we see. For example, if a dog didn't exist then the skulk might look completely different. If birds did not exist then the lerk might fly without flapping.

And so on and so forth.

(Not exactly that way but it is just an example)

The fact that you call them aliens and not Kharaa means you do have something against them! Which means they should be demonised! And made terrifying!

Well no such thing as a legit alien, but there are such things as alien looking aliens. An alien could look relatively familiar, or extremely weird, the stranger, the more "alien"

They look good, but I think humans can more easily relate to the more animal / human like aliens of NS1/NS2,
which I think is important in a game where both teams have human players.

Back in 1.03 - 1.04 the Fade was able to shoot acid. In think that is what's the trunk for.

    ---------------
    BTT.
I remember someone posted, that the skulk is way better to manoeuvre if the "camera" is in its mouth and not in the eye.
With the "camera" in its eye you would not see if you are attacking or not.
And the closing teeth are supposed to be the skulk closing its eyes when it bites. (like the shark does)

But I don't know anymore where I found it back then
