New Game Mode?

<div class="IPBDescription">could be good maybe</div>Just had a thought for a new game mode.
I am a lover of the classic NS 30 minute games were the best and CO was a tad evil but playable.
However a super fast game mode which could vary dependant upon the marine teams abilities could perhaps be some sort of survival mode?
Similar to Left for dead in a sense, the marine team attempts to escape from a Hive infested map, aliens have full access to most things perhaps not Onos though, would be a bit harsh.
I'd imagine they would also have to be weakened a little too, as Marines will of course not respawn unless found as survivors or they reach the end of the level or a command area which has not yet fallen (This would defy the whole point of survival though.)
This game mode would rely heavily on the alien team being far more sneaky as they'll have less health, and possibly do less damage.
This game mode would also be so much like Left for dead that I'll likely get flamed for it, but itd still be cool being a marine fighting for your survival, instead of stoically rushing a hive alone with a flamethrower and a massive set of balls.
The game would also be quick, in most instances and as such probably alot of fun to unwind for any who have trouble finding time for longer gaming experiences.
It could include a number of set tasks to fulfill before maybe an escape pod or an emergency escape hatch opens out onto the planet surface or something allowing Evac, at which point it could literally be a race for the finish where aliens chase the marines onto the ship from all angles, itd be epic!
Optionally there could also be a gorge mode, running from the evil marines that are trying hard to exterminate the gorge menace!
What do we all think? :)

FLAME FLAME FLAME!!!!!
Lol, the great thing about NS2 is it will be relatively easy to try out things like this
Marines would have "lives", or "tickets" and as soon as a marine reaches a checkpoint room, any dead companions respawn (spending lives/tickets, of course).
Aliens would have unlimited lives, but be limited to, say, only 1 onos, 1 fade, 2 lerks and the rest skulks at any one time. Choosing what lifeform you are could be handled preferably by autoselection, but maybe 1st come 1st serve could work. And maybe the Onos would be on a restrictive respawn cooldown timer so the marines wouldn't suffer wave after wave of Onos, even if only one.
I guess maps'd have to be specific for the gamemode though, which isn't a good idea seeing as then you have mappers mapping for one gamemode (co_) and the original, good ol' clean fun of classic ns gets screwed with no new maps... Or maybe not, who knows?
Whatever the case, I really, REEEAALLLY hope they never ever bring back co_ style gameplay.
Maybe if stuff got nerfed, or maybe there was ways to heal easily after you got attacked, it would work

Massively increase marine health and problem solved.
If someone made a decent NS2 bot, we could probably make this work zombie master-style. Alien comm controls the alien bots and marines have to fight their way through.
Isn't that poor mod dead now? Although yeah, would be totally sweet.
Well, if someone gets behind this and mods it up, power to them!
Itd be important to ensure that objectives of the mission which require to be fulfilled are located easily or are fairly intuitive as to what you might need to do, being obvious is one thing, but allowing the human player to figure out how to progress is definately the best option as it will increase game satisfaction. Just showing them the way would probably piss them off, like holding a kids hand.
As for human alien players, the game would basically play like the game mode in left for dead, itd be a ######site harder and probably almost impossible for the marines to win. Valve apparently designed that game mode in L4D so that it was impossibly hard, but still possible (just) to make it more of a how long can you survive game based on the skills of your team and the skills of the infected.
A bot based level would see considerably more enemy aliens nerfed further still, majority being skulks, fades, Lerks, Onos, being the specials, not sure how we'd incorporate gorges really, perhaps as hurdles which produce hydras, the longer they are left alive the more they produce, so it will provide a focus to kill aspect, surrounded by skulks this would prove tough. It would also play like a first person version of alien swarm, and I love that game, so ace!
As for mission objectives, some could be to access certain decks to destroy hives in key locations with the environmental assets located there, maybe hives are in an explosives storage area and the marines have to activate the explosives and then escape (or maybe even an airlock? watching a hive get sucked into space could be cool). Or the Hives too powerful, but in order to stop themselves being over-run must destroy so many eggs along the way.
either way, this is just my idea and in all fairness I have no idea how to code Lua all i'd be any good at would be mapping so lets pray UWE or a modder likes the idea ^^
Waypoints to each would have a general area notice, so proceed to waypoint 1 which happens to be the power grid.
Waypoint 2 happens to be infestation which has grown out of control and disabled mechanics required to operate the generator core.
Waypoint 3 is the lift, where some kind of defense scenario kicks in during transport.
Obviously waypoints 1 and 2 could be optional as to what order you go to them in, but the 3rd is of course guaranteed to happen after the other 2.
Additional assistance could be in to, for players who explore, equippable flame throwers (albeit with reduced ammo, spraying these could be just too much for the aliens to handle)
Larger weapons, only generally much harder to get to.
The great thing about it, is that given some thought maps could be immensely simple but provide for quite an interesting experience. Replayability however would be limited, but hell I'd love it ^^
I forgot about the Dead Space 2 multiplayer. Its definitely close to that.
once ns smooths out, i'm sure co maps will kick start.
I think having ordinary NS maps feature in this game mode would be nostalgic and prevent having to relearn too much in order to play. All in all Can;t wait :D, may even learn bits of LUA etc and try it myself :)
Lua is easier than c++, but if you are going to learn a language, I recommend c++, the 3dbuzz c++ series is very good for teaching you about c++, and I'm going through that as well as books, but you really only need the videos.

Yeah but Lua is what all the in-game scripting is coded in, C++ is more of the back-room engine stuff, so I understand. For what he wants to do Lua would be more appropriate to learn
Don't ever mess with damages and health percentages.
That way it's much more easy to remember how many bullets you need to put in an enemy before it goes down.
