in NS2 General Discussion
<div class="IPBDescription">Crash at start screen</div>NS2 was running fine until build ~167 or 168. After one of those updates, whenever I hit the home screen at startup, the background flickers for a couple seconds, and then the game becomes entirely unresponsive. I submitted a couple in-game reports since then. Anyone else experiencing this?
-ATI 4870 500mb (running up-to-date drivers)
-Windows 7 64bit

    Oh wow, my bad. Apparently you shouldn't run NS2 while dual screening with a projector.

    I had a similar display-related problem with the game crashing the second it was loaded without a chance to get the startup screen.

    I turned off a refresh rate-force program and retried and it worked.

    Same here... I have a game that not start ... It is a problem with ATI radeon I have the 4650... sad :(

    Have you guys tried:
    -Updating drivers
    -Disabling dual-screen, if applicable
    -Lowering resolution
    -Messing around with Catalyst Control Center options

    when my screen freze i need to CTRL + ALT + SUPPR and come back in the game, after this it's ok

    yes, I can't even get in the menu without crashing now.

    Before I'd jusdt crash because of joining certain servers.

    this bugs me too, it happens somewhat 6 times out of 10 and it can get really annoying. I'm running on GTS 8800, so it's not just ATI related

    This game was loading fine before this update, why would we need to change anything with our settings?

    I have EVGA 480 SC in SLI so it is not just ATI cards.

    Everything was working very fine in 170. Now, some of the time it crashes before it finishes connecting to the server, other times it seems to connect and just sits there with a black screen (with the red text in the top left corner) indefinitely. Then again, I've only had positive experiences in #156 West, and that server's currently down, so these issues may have existed previously and are just specific to most other servers.

    We are working on the server now, hope to have it back up shortly.

    I will keep trying to connect with my gaming machine, still having some trouble even getting to see servers.

    Like KuBan I'm unable to join a server after build 171. I get the black screen with the red text in the upper left corner but the game is locked up. I have to use the task mgr. to get out of game. this is on two computers running win7. I was able to set up a LAN with some difficulty.

    Well I got NS2 working again. I was having the black screen once I clicked "Play Natural Selection 2" and it would just sit there, locked up. I would have to CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out.

    I had to uninstall and reinstall NS2. I think it has something to do with the Steam auto update. I am guessing that it starts the update and it either fails or doesnt finish and you end up with a corrupt install.
